About 5 years ago, I threw in the towel on collecting the new stuff because of all of the scalpers. You would be absolutely amazed at the 3am backroom deals that go on in Walmarts when the new cases are opened.

There's this one guy... ...comes into Target every once and a while during the evenings all dressed up nice... ...he'll ask someone in the toys dept about hotwheels... ...Im just a cashier, but since Ive helped out a lot back there he sometimes fines me. He'll ask if I can look in the back for "unopened boxes" Once I asked him if he was a collector or a seller, and man, he defended his collection by totally bad mouthing the sellers, basically explaining how they were scalpers.

He also once explained why unopened boxes were important. He said that another employee here collects them too, and therefore gets there before him. Thus, anything he wants, is taken. Every now and then, I'll find an unopened box. Basically, he waits until the racks need to be stocked, tells me they need to, then offers to stock them after he gets to dig around for what he wants. He's real nice, ...for a grown man collecting toys... ...Actually I did explain to him how I collected cars too, just so he wouldnt feel lame asking a young girl about them. Course, I also explained that I take them out of the packaging toys are meant to be played with

But, for a 79 cent toy, there sure is a HUGE following. Dont waste your investment money on beenie babies, hotwheels is a steady market.

I am more into NASCAR than Hotwheels. BTW Doc is right about those shadey 3am stockroom deals at walmart. It's pretty deep. It actually makes me wish sometimes that I worked in recieving instead of on the sales floor. Oh well. Good luck to you on you search.

Once at Target we got in these "lava" Darth Vaders toys. They had to be "asked for" as we had them locked up in the managers office. I had no clue that we had them until someone asked... ...she said that they were going for $100 on ebay! Course, what she really meant to say was that was the starting bid... ...I dont think anyone bid on those... ...however they did go for $40-$70 For a $7.99 toy.

I was torn. I wanted to buy one, even though I knew nothing about it, and wasnt a fan of the movie. I wanted to buy it just to sell it... ...but then I felt horribly bad about all the scalpers on ebay doing the same thing. I was thinking, well, you're limited to only one, and how this simple act would basically be a free work days pay. But then I started feeling guilty again, thinking its wrong. Didnt mater what toy, I had seen toys starting a the retail price, skyrocket just because there were none availible, because sellers bought them.

I then decided that I would buy one during my brake. If they had one, then I would sell it... ...if they were out, then oh well, it wasnt meant to be. That was only an hour away, and I had saw atleast 10 there... ...and considering that I was only asked about it ONCE, meant that the customers didnt know about them. But, sure enough, they were completely out... ...course, the manager told me theyve been out since saturday. It was Sunday, and like I said, there were about 10 an hour earlier.

But anyway, in that once case, stock room wouldnt have been able to get to it before the sales floor.... ...as Targets not open 24 hours... ...all the registers would have been closed. Stock room would only be able to sell/buy during open hours. This would be the one time, salef floor would have benifited from this.
