The other day my wife was jerking my chain in a playful way about my "toys". It got me thinking about how long I have been collecting these "toys". I can remember playing with HotWheels and Matchbox cars since I was a little boy. My favorites were the Mustangs and Panteras. (Didn't know it at the time but the Panteras are pretty closely related to the 'Stang but that is a different topic.)
Anyway, I still have a few 'Stangs from the '70s. From there it has been down hill. Just about every time I see a new one, I have to "sneak" it into the shopping cart when we are shopping. She doesn't say too much, just gripes a little. My brother doesn't help much. Just about every year for Christmas, he buys me a couple of 1:64 'Stangs. Nothing fancy, your normal WalMart/K-Mart type but I appreciate any and all types.
My question is, How long have you been collecting these smaller versions of the king of pony cars? For me it has been about 30 years and I have just a few sitting in plastic totes in the basement just waiting to be displayed when I get the basement finished. Pictures coming later, I promise.
p.s. Brad, you are doing a fantastic job on this site and you should take a bow. If we ever hook up, I'll buy you a drink.

I've been collecting stangs since 1968 when my parents bought a '68 coupe.
This was later my first car. I still have this one in my garage + a '67 Fastback. Soon to be followed by several Mustang Hotwheels and Matchbox.
That makes about 36 years. I hope to add the 2005 to my collection, both full and 1:64-1:18 scales.

My husband & I both played with Hot Wheels & Matchbox when we were kids. He had most of his still. I don't know what happened to mine?!?!?

We have been collecting (again) seriously for a little over a year now. We mostly collect Mustangs & "muscle cars". His Mustang only collection has been longer, though.

It's funny - I think I buy more "toys" than he does.

Our front bedroom is our "collectables" room. Half is his diecast collectables & the other half is my Coca-Cola collectables. It's painted bright-screamin'-at-ya-red & white. It's quite an interesting room. But - it's a lot of fun!

Few months now.

My brother bought me '73 Mach 1 scale 1:18 for my birthday (Aug. 15) and then I started to collect them.

I even have '92 Mach III Concept, but it's a small one (Johnny Lightning).

Have been collecting Mustang brochures for the past 10 years, started collecting models about the same time, stopped buying models and started buying diecast about 5 years ago. If I had the time and money I could build a an add on room and display a nice little collection. My wife could say the same about her Dept. 56 collection. I have my own little Dept. 56 collection(Snow Village) with the Ford dealership and assorted businesses that I set up at Christmas time. Of couse the cars are all Ford vehicles.

I got hooked on Mustangs in 1983. I subscribed to the magazine the next year....and since then, I have owned 5 real Mustangs (only 2 left).
My "toy" collection is getting larger by the day. I have a "Mustang Room" in the house, which is pretty cool. We painted a black & white checkerboard border at the top of the room, with a red pinstripe. There are at least 300 1:64's...10 or so Franklin Mints & Danbury Mints, then there are the 1:32's you buy from Toys-R-Us, and anything and everything Mustang. Even micro-machines! There are only 2 cars in the whole room that are NOT mustang...one is the Charger from the movie Bullitt (because I own the '01 Bullitt) and the other is a Shelby Cobra that was a gift from my son. There are 10 framed pictures, posters, Mustang Cookies, Mustang Monopoly (regular & 40th edition)...the list just goes on and on...

Yesterday I got '68 Fastback from movie Bullitt (scale 1:18). It took me 6 hours to put the parts together, and I still can't figoure it how to fit the engine.

My 1:18 collection has grown to around 125, 70 of them Mustangs. They are a pain when it comes cleaning time.

My Mustangs are from the years '65-73, '99-'03, plus the '93 and '05 concepts. There is quite a gap. My goal is to eventually have as many of the models/years/colors as they become available, as well as when funds can be spared.

Started in 1968 with my first Hot Wheels cars, still had my original red 68 Fastback car.
Here's a quick summary:

1/18th - 50+ cars, Mustangs, Saleens, Cobras & GT 40s
1/24th - 15 Mustangs
1/43rd - 75+, Mustangs (all major body styles--even a MII racer), Cobras, & GT 40s
1/64th - 500+ models of all kinds of Ford brands- (have an original 65 Fastback by Matchbox with steerable front wheels)
25+ Unbuild Mustang models from 1/6th to 1/24th-1/25th scale--rarest is a 1/12th Revell model of a 65 GT-350R, has realistic parts for building the suspension.)

(Also an mix of odd sized Mustangs from Micro-minis to 1/35th stuff)

1/18, I have to have about 40. Only room for 15 at any one time to display....until the garage/art gallery is done.

I got my first 1:24 car my sophmore year in college, about 3 years ago. It was a '99 Cobra that I put on my nightstand. Motivation for me to get our of bed and go to class, since one day I will have a Cobra. Now I just buy sports cars I like, about 10 cars total.

The limited availability of 1:24 cars has me considering switching to 1:18

I've been collecting about five years. None of my childhood diecast survived my younger brothers. My collection is still growing...

10 1/18
3 1/24
6 1/43
200+ 1/64

Um... I actually don't have any Mustangs in my collection. I want one but can't find any decent ones from 67'-70', which is what I want. Let me rephrase that... I can't find any decent 67'-70' 1:18th models in stores locally for $20 or less because I'm a cheap son of a well you know! j/k Actually, I've been collecting models since I was 3... Not car models though. Large scale model trains, most of which I still have. The last one I bought was a $250 Bachman model of a Baldwin Locomotive Works 4-4-0 American 1:20.3 scale. I even kitbashed a 1:24th Baldwin 2-6-0 Mogul. Both locomotives are Denver and Rio Grande btw.. Not that anyone here cares.....

I do have lots of 1:24ths including a Chevy SSR, Shelby Cobra, a 20's Mercedes SSK, Several Ford Model As, a new Thunderbird, and a Z8. Here's a list of my 1:18ths...

70' Chevelle SS
67' Camaro
65' Corvette
69' Charger
49' Coupe De Ville
60's Triumph Spitfire
a busted 60's Austin Healy MK 3000
two 77' Firebirds
69' GTO
a new Boxter

and no Fords because.. Ford sucks j/k
Ok, my Fords:
50's Ford Ranchero
54' Thunderbird
65' Shelby Cobra 427
65' Shelby Cobra Daytona
69' Ford Torino Tallega

I believe that's it.
