Your reason for buying a V6 instead of a GT.
For me it was cost. The GT was going to be another $50 a month and an extra $70 a month for my insurance. I'm happy with my V6 but at the same time I wish I would have got the GT. Maybe in 08 if I get another raise. Also last week I found out that my insurance dropped $50 a month due to a good driver discount.

I thought about getting a V6, but the extra cost for the GT was worth it especially if you wanted a V8 in the first place. Bottom line is if you want the V8, get it.

Isn't the reason always cost? Why didn't you save for one more month before you bought your car, then you could spend that ~$350 (monthly payment) on the difference in owning a V8 for 5 months (@ $70/month). Then you bought an exhaust which I'm sure is over $70.
You have a good looking, brand new car and you should be very proud of it. Your math just didn't make sense to me.

i had a V6 before my GT and i love my GT but i would not mind a V6 for road racing, but even then if a V8 can drift, road race, and drag then my GT can too

I bought a V6 because it was exactly what I wanted. I figured why spend $10k more for 90 extra HP that I'll never use. Any anyway, anyone who thinks the V6 lacks power obviously has never driven one.

A V6 Deluxe coupe w/ the MT has a 15.7:1 weight to power ratio, which is like a 260 hp Crown Vic (basically what I have). Runs high 14s in the 1/4 mile. It's not bad, but it's far from the performance of a Mustang GT (11.5:1 weight to power ratio).

I couldn't find it in myself to buy a V6.
I wanted a muscle car and in my humble opinion, other than the Grand National or T-Type, a muscle car just doesn't have a v6 in it.
I see a lot of people that drive V6's at work and I always get the impression from them that they "wanted a mustang" but didn't want the gas mileage of a V8 or the V6 was cheaper.
I had one guy come up to me and say that he has a Mustang too, parked about 30 feet away and his words were "I have one right there and it doesn't sound like this".... (my gt with slp loudmouths revving to show my boss and co-workers).
I looked... and sure enough he had a V6.
He ran off before I could talk to him.
eh... to each his own but a Mustang to me needs a V8.

With respect to the OP, this is a thread about why you bought a V6 instead of a GT... not why did you buy a GT instead of a V6. I know I voiced my reasoning earlier, but I just didn't understand. Hell I didn't buy a V6 or GT, so maybe my opinion is skewed. FWIW, I couldn't find an S197 GT in my price range when I bought my car.

i was all ready to get a v6 pony package but the guys at work influenced me enought to get the v8. and when i say influence, they all agreed that if i got the v6 i would be abused for years to come.
thanks to their great wisdom i went with the v8. gas milage doesnt really matter to me since ive only owned v8's (85 chevy caprice, 95 grand marquis). so glad i went with the v8.
once after gettin it handwashed at the local place, while they were drying it i had a few guys tell me how sweet the car is and so on. one of the guys said he just bought one for his daughter. i was like...daaaaaaaaaamn....(i was gonna ask if she was single but i couldnt ask the girls father that). but then he told me it was the v6 and i reluctantly responded "well the v6 IS a girls car after all". got a bunch of laughs.

Mine was due to it was all they could find in the options we wanted and it was originally going to be the wife's car. Now it's mine and I may trade it in for an 08 with all the same options plus a few others.

I've always had a V8 but when it came down to getting a new car the only thing on my mind was getting out of my POS truck and into a Mustang. Not because of the muscle car factor but just because I LOVE the body style. That and money is what got me the V6. I get crap everyday though from my family about buying a 6 instead of an 8. Don't get me wrong I love the car, and I love it more and more each day but I miss the power of a 8.
