Yet another way to fix the water problem

After heavy amounts of rain the floor behind the passenger and driver seats are soaked with water. It's hard to get at the problem so here's what I did.

1. with the top down remove the top cap by the quarter windows then raise the quarter windows up.
2. remove inner weather stripping (abiut 12 inches long)
3. get a garden hose and insert it into opening at rear of quarter window and turn on. This will loosen up the debris and it should float on top of the water.
4. use a wet/dry shop vac to suck up all the debris that's floating on top of the water.
5. repeat flooding and sucking until all the debris is gone and the water runs out of the weep holes on the bottom quickly.
6. put everything back the way it was.

This worked great for me and it was quick and easy. If you have a large shop vac you may want to get a reducer and smaller hose. It will fit easier.

Thanks! I'm still stunned this site doesn't have a 'convertible' section. It was brought up by you before but apparently ignored. https://themustangsource.com/f651/se...tibles-520064/
Strange you can have a category for every color under the rainbow but not a section for 'verts and the unique questions and posts that can apply.

NC07GTCS there is a lot of info on this forum for Verts but to search for it is soooo time consuming.

It rained real hard here in NYC today and I went out to check and see if my idea worked. WOW it did, no water in the back seat from the heavy down pour and none on the floor boards up front. I didn't bother to put back the rubber drain plugs on the firewall. I don't think I have to worry about mice, rats or other vermin because if they wanted in that little piece of rubber won't stop them.

I'm still wondering why Ford put a piece of foam at the bottom of the quarter panel where the drain plug is. This foam gets clogged with dirt, leaves and pine needles. By flushing it and vacuuming it I was able to get all the dirt and debris out. I know this happens to a lot of Mustang Vert owners and I couldn't find a TSB on it.

I dont have a 'vert, but agree 100%- there are unique chassis differences that certainly DESERVE a separate section to group unique details into easier to find format...

bet its a roadnoise thing. if you look in your doorjambs at the front, theres foam inserts in there... look closer. theres cutouts that say 'up'. the cutouts go thru to the plastic insert that holds the foams shape- at the bottom, the foam fits so tight it gets cut by pressure from fender pressing on the plastic insert... i pulled my car apart when new to seal/undercoat, and bottoms of both fenders were wet, looking at the foam bits, water was seeping out of them- a week after the last rain...squeezing them, water came out bottom and the 'up' cutouts. guarantee the pressure/rubbing/moisture is going to cause a vertical rust out on the bottoms of the fenders eventually- i trimmed mine back about 1/4 inch before putting the fenders back on, no more water in the fenders. some of this 'noise supression' stuff I'm convinced is tied with 'planned obsolescence' by contributing to long term corrosion issues. my mark VII had foam in the rockers, guess where it rotted from the inside/out at?
