is it wrong to be misleading when telling people about your mods?

Me and an old friend had a few races this weekend (07 c6 vette). Now, we arent great friends or anything, just old aquantances (sp). He asked me what i had done - i said some intake and exhaust work. He had gears, exhaust, intake, shifter, and some other minor stuff.

Well he persist to say hes going to stomp me, why do i even want to race (he is the one who came to me to race, not the other way around).

So we go out to some country road with not a soul insight, we have at it, i get him by 2 cars out of the whole and win by about 5-7 cars.

Now he is ****ed off. Says i lied to him about my mods, and that is BS when people do that. OK, so i lied a little, but i still told the truth...... I do have some intake work, and some exhuast work............ with a turbine in the middle.

So, does everytime someone ask you what you have done to your car, you have to tell them? Im sorry, but if you ask someone to race because they think the car is close to stock, and it turns out it isnt - then id say thats tehir issue, not the person being called out.

I thought it was funny....

i dont mention what they cant see.. most engine bay lookers only look for the common stuff intake, headers, pulleys, F.I and if the solinods are not in sight they forget to look for it. But only a few did notice my zex tucked under the blower unit . so i wouldnt mention it and but i would was truthful about it being active/inactive.. ( keep in mind it was installed but was also useless at the time cause I was pending a tune for it).

I would not think twice, stomp it, romp it, and leave him to clean off his own dust.

Well this comes for an "Old Fart" but back in the 60's I seem to recall that we went by "if you want to see whats under the hood, lets race and if you win, you can look all you want"

Why in the world would you ever divulge the details of what you've done? Half the fun is watching the disgust and frustration on their face when you pull the cars back around! Do you feel compelled to share your hand with your opponents when you're playing poker?

And of course don't forget HE asked YOU to race because he was so full of himself he was certain he would beat you. It wasn't the other way around. Modesty is always the best policy.

Well if you're running a turbo, and he couldn't hear the spool/whine, then shame on him.

never tell them what you have done. the more cocky they are, the less i would say.

cockiness = less respect from me.
humbleness = more respect

If he challenges you, you don't have to say anything.
If you talk, you should tell the truth (not details, but major stuff). S/C or Turbo is major. If you choose to talk, you should at least say you have it (you don't have to say what the psi boost is).
Think of how much fun you could have had if he knew and still said he would blow you away.

Isn't this the reason the term "Sleeper" was penned?

What turbo are you running? When I ran my fox with a s-trim, people would always think it was the power steering pump about to go. Once you pass your opponent by 5-10 car lengths they should get a clue... ha ha.

If the person is cool, yeah I don't care if they know. If they prove to be a jerk and want to race for $$$, no way.

It's part of street racing edicate. Watch the negotiations on the show "Pinks" and you'll see it's done all the time.
