Thumbs up

As gas prices continue to go up and should be even higher during the summer, would you consider buying something else instead of a new Mustang ?
If so what would you buy? just curious...

I would still go Mustang. They're are trade-offs to all cars. Would I trade a Mustang for a Foci and better gas milage? Nope. Would I perhaps buy a beater like an older Focus to off-set? Maybe.

You mean buy something else with better mileage?

Lets say you put 10000 miles a year on your car. At 20mpg, that's 500 gallons. At 30mpg, that's 333 gallons. At 2 bucks a gallon, you are saving 166 gal x $2 = $333/yr, or about $28/mo.

If $28 month is going to be a deal breaker, then you might want to re-evaluate whether buying a $25k car is a wise move.

Even if prices go to $3/gallon, that's still only 50% more or $42/month. Not exactly big money. Make one less trip to the bar a month, and you got it. Or if you really want to get that $42 back, just leave some options off the stang and lower your payment.

IMHO, the effects of rising gas costs are generally extremely exaggerated. Its like long distance phone calls. Do I really give a rats hiney if I'm paying 10 cents a minute instead of 5 cents? Does anyone? Gee, I can't afford that cup of coffey this month now, darn! Same thing for gas. So I skip the bar one weekend and go to the gym instead. Or I cut out the monthly trip to Outback. Whatever. People will drive 20 miles to save $3 on a tank of gas, just to say they got a better price.

Gas milage wise, no sir I wouldn't.

However, in general, yeah. But the problem is NOBODY is making a car I'd rather have, except Pontiac's GTO. And even then, it's not very attractive, pricing or looks wise. I do like their interiors, though...

But yeah, I'm probably going to get a Mustang when I get another car. I may be late to the party however...

The GTO has 50 more HP, but is much heavier. The performance stats don't beat the 05 Stang. Not worth 35k in my book. It might handle better though and have a more luxurious interior. I don't know, I haven't really looked at them.

The day that I let someone that resides in a 3rd world country dictate what I drive because of gas $$, is the day I trade my Fords in for a bicycle.

People don't buy SUV's for their gas milage. There are reason's behind car purchases beyond the inconvient gas price.

I'm definately going the 'stang route. There's nothing else that I'm really interested in replacing my car with for the price. The closest thing would be the RX-8 if I were to seek an alternative.

I own a SUV now and my 65 stang with a 289 got better mileage! I was thinking by getting an 05 v-6 ( averaging in the 20's MPG range) I will be doing great!!!!!!!

Oh not really anything eles I want to buy on the market now.

I don't need a new car anyway, I just really want to own an 05 Mustang.

If it was not availble I don't think any car builder, has a car that excites me as much "to buy on impulse", like this Mustang.........................

The question might be asked in a different way: If you won the lottery, say a couple of million or more, what would you drive?

I would pay off my two stangs, buy a truck for general beating, and buy a new stang every year as long as it was kept cutting edge.

SUV owners get the money back on resale(as long as its not a 4x2 or manual), as a general rule, the lower the gas mileage, the higher the resale value tends to be. A 7 year old Expy with 120k miles can still easilly get $12-15k for it.

it's either a 2005 mustang or a 2005 lincoln navigator so gas is not a problem. the final dealer lot look, feel and test drive of the mustang will determine which one I get.

2005 Corvette, if I had the bank. The fuel economy would be superb (Corvettes are certified National Low Emissions Vehicles), and I'd have boatloads of performance.

Now that is a totally different question. If I won the lottery, I would buy all finds of cars. Enzo, AC Cobra, few classics Mustang, new f-150 lightning, but, until then, The new Mustang will certainly do.
