Worth waiting for the special variants?
I was planning originally to get the 04 cobra but then insurance was going to be ridiculous so I was considering the Mach 1 until finally I set my heart on the 05 GT. The thing is I have around 38k planned to put into buying a car and was wondering if I shouldn't maybe wait for the variants, especially the Mach 1, to come out since they'll be better cars more likely closer to my price range.
After reading the article in Motortrend I understand that the variants are most likely going to come out fairly early but how early is that likely to be?
Also, any idea what kind of price difference to expect when they do come out?
I'm really not too educated about Mustangs in general and I'm new to the forum, any advice is greatly appreciated thanks

We don't know concrete details yet. Insurance prob won't be that much diff between SE and Cobra. You may get close to a Cobra for $38k. Latest RUMORS are saying the Cobra will be out before the SE.
probably not gonna go with the cobra because of insurance, the 400+ hp (or 500+ whatever) is gona kill me on the insurance rate. I also heard 2006 for the cobra, are we talking within a year for the variants? i mean as a possibility i know theres nothing definite yet or even close
Vert production starts in Jan, so April is a little late. I don't think we'll see anything in April, they will be putting a lot into the marketing of the GT and V6. They won't take away the marketing from the new body and everything so quickly as April, six months is a lot shorter than I would take to push an "all new from the ground up" Mustang.
[FONT=Impact]I would definatly wait for the variant. The variants are going to be incredible cars. The 05 GT itself (which doesn't have IRS) should be able to handle awesome, so the new Boss, or Cobra, will be able to handle amazingly. Remember, this platform was designed for IRS. SO the variants will have amazing handling. I expect handling superior to Porsche Carrera and M3...
If you wait, you'll have one helluva car.
Also, consider your age. Right now, your insurance maybe high for a Cobra, but in a couple years it could drop a lot! For instance if you 24 now, when you turn 25, I think insurance goes down.
I don't beleive the Cobra or Boss, will be 38K btw, everyone is saying it is, but no one Ford has said it will be. They say that because of the performance up grades. The Cobra will probably stay near the same price.

Whats all this talk about special editions coming out based on the new body style? I thought I read somewhere the "main" reason the Mach1 and Bullitt were released was to spark interest in the current/outdated body style due to declining sales. Do u really think Ford is gonna need to produce limited editions to promote the new one. I mean, my God, the FEVER for the 05 is INSANE.
I personally wouldnt mind seeing the Mach1 continue. But I wouldnt hold my breath.

Porsches, (excluding the boxster) are rear, not mid, engined. Whether or not they will continue to be is questionable. I think porsche has reached the limits, or is close, to what they can do with a flat 6 rear engine car. If the SE is still almost 2 years away, that sucks.
I wouldn't agree, hippy. Remember, they switched from air-cooled to water-cooled engines only about 5-10 years ago, so I think they aren't yet close to the limits of what they can do. Porsche's technology is far superior, and they will do everything they can to keep the engine at the rear of the car. 911s are about the rear engine. That's the difference about them. Cayenne (okay, not a real sports car, but still a Porsche) has, btw, front engine, too. There's been some rumor about a fourth series Porsche is developing, a sedan or something, I bet it'll have a front engine.

I want a SE but i want it in automatic. Do you think it will be like the cobra? Manual only?
