With all the problems/issues I am reading, I am contemplating cancelling my order. My intentions were to use this car as a daily driver, however it seems as though there are a lot of problems which I just can't deal with. I am a copier technician, thus I drive about 100-200 miles a day. Being a technician I understand that no machine is perfect and they all need service at some point, but a brand new car should not have so many problems as I have been reading lately.

I decided to get another mustang because I LOVE the 05 styling, the interior is incredible (especially for a Mustang) and I have never had any problems with the others I've owned. IMHO the fox body was one of the most durable and reliable american cars ever built. I know people who were running nitrous on stock engines w/200k at the drag strip, and they still drove the cars to work on monday morning. It's too bad they don't build cars like that any more. The more I read about 05 problems the more I am inclined to cancel my order and find another good ole fox body.

I have no problems at all except for my Shaker 1000 spitting out the disks and a new headunit at no charge is on it's way. I absolutely love my Mustang, and so does everyone around me. It's a truely awesome car.

I'm one of the ones who has listed a couple of problems (a rattle in my gauages and some gear whine), but these seem to be minor issues. Overall the car is incredible. The gear whine doesn't affect anything mechanical, and is probably normal for the '05. The rattle in my dash is an annoyance, and I will have the dealer fix it as soon as I have the opportunity to have a service tech go with me on a test drive. The build quality is exceptional otherwise.

If I could do it over, I would have still ordered an '05. It is an amazing vehicle. Hope this helps.

Don't cancel your order, Jason. It's very likely you'll get a great car you'll be thrilled with. Just make sure you take it for a thorough test drive before it's prepped for final delivery and before you hand over payment.

It's definitely helping me, because I have to admit I'm getting a little snake bit too from reading some of the problems on here and at StangNet. I guess EVERY car when it is made in large quantities and is the main subject on a message board like this is going to have it's lemons and overall issues though. It just happens. Anything mechanical has that chance of having problems. Ok, I feel better now. lol Seriously, I'm not going to drop my order, and I'm as big a skeptic on things as anyone. Everyone I've talked to that has either a GT or V6 model loves theres and haven't had problems. This is the first place I've seen big issues with the engine, etc. come up.

I have enjoyed my car immensely,........If you really want the 05 for the reasons you stated I would hang, again if there are issues with the car FOMOCO will deal with it . This is too important a vehicle for them not to. I'm not aware of any problems on mine at all.

Keep this mind: there are thousands of owners out there who aren't coming on this forum and saying "Hey, my Mustang is perfect...no problems at all!". On other hand you've seen the few people who have had problems coming on the forum and posting messages trying to find out is anyone else is also having the problem. I'm betting the there are much higher number of satisfied owners than ones who are experiencing problems. It just seems the opposite because all you see are the problems on the forum.

Thanks for the good words everyone. I don't think I'll cancel, its just scary to think about ending up with a lemon. Everything I have now is paid for which is nice, and I'd hate to think I have to part with that car payment on something I'm not happy with. Also, I am using it for work so it HAS to be reliable. Downtime and shop trips are inconvenient and costly because of lost work. But heck, I drive a 76 Continental now which costs me about $650 a month just for gas, so I gotta do something.

BTW if anyone is interested, the Continental is for sale. $1000

It has a 460 4V, C6, and all the regular luxuries you wouold find in today's lincolns. The 75-79s were the last of the big ones, a true classic built to last forever. It only has 115k, about 40k of that in the last 2 years. Runs good, drives good. Needs control arm bushings, exhaust manifold gaskets, a/c condenser, one window motor (rear), and very minor rust repair over taillights and one spot on fender.

Before I bought my Mazda 6, I spent alot of time on a Mazda forum. All I saw were posts about rust around door frames, bad trannies, check engine lights, etc. I felt the same way you feel now. I was ready to start shopping something else when it hit me: these are the people having problems but they're only a small percentage of the owners out there (just as I stated above). I bought the 6 and haven't regretted it. It's been completely trouble free and I haven't seen any of the "major" problems others were talking about. I plan on buying a Mustang sometime next year when I'm ready financially. If I could do it now, I wouldn't hesitate one second to buy one.

For myself, this was more than a purchase of another car - or transportation that gets the nod from Consumer Reports, etc. It is a Mustang - it has tons of character - it growls when you give it gas - it brings back memories ... you get the picture. It was more a purchase based on emotion as compared to efficiency, reliability, etc.

I understand your concerns about buying one during the first year of production. The concept of finding bugs and problems in this model were being discussed on this forum long before the first cars came off the line. Lots of us who purchased did so knowing full well that we were exposed to the risk of having first year problems. I figured a roll of the dice was well worth it for a car of this caliber. Thus far, my experience has been positive.

I agree with the other folks who don't think this forum is the right place to seek a measure of mechanical reliability for the new Mustang. The collective posts and experiences are real, and reflect what is going on, however we are a small group, and the numbers are not statistically relavant. A much better picture of reliability will develop later on through formal surveys.

I'm not sure, but perhaps it comes down to this. If you need some measure of how reliable the Mustang is when compared to another car, then you don't have much to go on. You can read posts of folks with issues, and folks without.

I wish you the best. B)

Bro.... you gotta understand... your on a Mustang enthusiast forum.... so of course your going to be hearing about alot of complaints... because people will address their issues here to get some advice on how to fix em.

There are another 20,000+ or so who you don't hear from because they are out enjoying their mustang and really have no complaints.

With that said... don't cancel! Because once you see an 05 on the road... I bet you would prolly regret doing it.

My car has been perfect so far. And remember, for every 1 that has problems, there are problem 1000 that don't. It's just like anything else.

Hmm... Are you telling me that there is never any problems with a new model copier... EVAR?!?!?!11?!1twentysix!

Riiiggghhhtttt...

Teething problems will happen on the first year, but I'm sure that a) Ford will make it right, and B) you're likely to get a good one instead of a problem child.

Besides, you have extra cars, so if it does burp, you got spares, yeah? More than most have. Get it and enjoy!

/wishes he had one.

haha no copiers never have problems!!! (P.S. Buy Canon!) Seriously I know everything breaks and I fully expect and understand that I will have to put it in the shop at some point. I just hope it's not very often.

Unfortunately I am one of those people who is overly obsessed with my cars and I absolutely hate letting anyone drive them, work on them, or even touch them for that matter because of the chance they may mistakenly scratch or ding something. I drive the Lincoln purely so my other vehicles can stay nice and clean in storage, that way I don't have to stress myself out trying to keep them spotless. The T/A had not even been rained on for 2 years until this past week. I don't think the Mach 1 has ever seen nasty weather except maybe in transit from the factory. But the 05 will be my daily driver cause gas is killing me in the Lincoln, so I just hope I get a good one!

I only ordered about a month ago, and I have no idea of the status (didn't ask b/c I don't wanna think about it). I did order IUP so it will probably be a while.
