Question Wiring Leds

Im looking to wire some Leds in a specific manner.
Ive been looking at the wiring diagrams but can not seem to figure this out.

What I want to do is wire a led so that it turns on when the doors open then turn off after a while when doors are closed. But then I would like to be able to turn them on again with the headlight switch.

Wiring them into the overhead light will allow them to turn on when the doors open but I can not figure out how to turn them on again with the switch.
If I run power to them from the switch they are always on no matter what.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Let me look at the diagrams I have.

What year is your car? There are some minor differences between 05-06 and 07-09.

So to be clear,

You tapped into the dome lights? Pins 25 and 26 coming out of the SJB on C2280F? And this only turned them on when the doors opened?

When you wired it to the switch, did you use pin 5 on the switch C2298 and ground the return? And it stayed on using this pin?

When wired into the dome light, did they light when you turned on the dome lights on the overhead console?

And are you wanting this to be a part of the ambient lighting system?

These are for the 2005, 2009, and the last 2 are for the 2014 for comparison.

Thanks Jim for taking the time to help me.
My car is a 07.
what I did so far is try to connect to the sill plates since they are connected to the done light and the main switch for the headlights.
I haven't tried connecting to the dimmer itself yet. Just the main switch.
Didnt work.
I'll take a look at the shots you provide but know that when it comes to these schematics I have difficulty reading them sometimes.
yes id like them to function like they do in the 2010+ cars.
I will try to do what your questions are asking and report back.

I have the sill plates too.

Best bet is to test tapping into the 2 wires from the Smart Junction Box on C2280F. These wires go all the way up to the dome lights and are black with light blue stripe for the signal and light green with yellow stripe for the return.

If that is how you had it, and it only worked when the door was open, then perhaps in addition to wiring as above, you could also tap into the purple with yellow stripe from pin 5 on the switch C2298. Tap into this one for signal along with tapping into the black with light blue for signal and only tap into green with yellow for the return.

This is all I can think of, but I am no electronics guy. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.

The 10-14 get their signals from not just from the switch via the SJB, but also the BCM. No way of wiring it the same as a 10-14, unfortunately.

Since you have ambient lighting, why not tap into that system?

When you say return do you mean the negative of the led?
Or are all these wires going to the positive side and the negative is just to ground?

Forget about the grounding, I think that is just for switches.
