Will Higher Gas Cost Lower GT Demand?
Hi Everybody... 1st post.... just joined. My question is:
With gas now over $3.00/gal in most of the US, do you believe this will negatively impact the torrid demand for the Mustang GT. I will soon be purchasing an 06' Black GT Premium Coupe and want to hear your opinion.

I doubt it will have any impact at all. The GT isn't getting "full-size truck" gas mileage - i'm getting 18/23 in mine.
Truck, SUV, and boat sales... now that's another story.

The V6 Member is based on the amount of posts that you make. I don't remember the # to get to the next level, (the one I am at) but it is probably 100 or 200 posts. It should be in the FAQ.

The Gas prices won't affect whether or not I buy a GT. My Honda gets about the same mileage as the GT does ~20mpg.

I took delivery of my GT on Thursday (9/1). I reset the average fuel reading on the way home from the dealership as I was passing my work place. I've got a 25 mile drive from work to home over mainly 2 lane country highways. My average mpg reading when I pulled in my driveway was 24.7. That's only 1.5 mpg less then I've been getting in my '97 4 cyl. S10. At $3.50/gal that will make an increase of about $15.00 per month in fuel costs in my daily drive to and from work. It's definately worth the extra $15/month to drive the GT.
A little, but I doubt it'll make any visable impact. Maybe more on those who are borderline with affording it.
The main thing you'll notice is alot of the hype die down, poeple who had to have it already have it, so there will be more negotioating room next year when they slowly build up more inventory on showrooms.

It might.....its a matter of how long people think this will last. I think most people believe the high gas prices we are seeing are temporary. If in 5 months they are still very high, I think it probably would hurt sales.

I did a similiar poll in the general chat section. It seems that in general, increasing gas prices will have a very small effect on demand.
How do I get rid of "V6 Member" in my profile on the left of my post?

I think it will impact the big motor homes (coaches) that get about 8 miles per gallon. My boss just bought a 05 diesel pusher around $450K and diesel is more expensive than premium where I live. It's not going to slow him down because he can afford it but I'm sure the sales of those big boys will decline!
I averaged 25.2 mpg on a 200-mile trip this weekend. The best I ever got with my F150 was 19.6. I still love the F150 for different reasons, but I'm thrilled that the GT does so well.
I just went over 1kmiles on the odometer, so the break-in is officially over! (not that there weren't a few redlines on the way to 1k!)

No way will it kill the demand for these cars. People still gobbling up those gigungous "suvs" just to tote the kids around. Humvee's with 24" rims and a 95lbs lady driving it through the local McDonalds is no rare around here.
If people are willing to pay markups for these cars they certainly aren't going to sweat the extra 20 bucks or so per week to fill it up.

My "LEFT" brain tells me to buy a hybrid, but my "RIGHT" brain tells me to stick with my GT, I'm going to do what's RIGHT for me...GT!!!
But I'll probably keep my V-6 as a daily driver. Even if gas goes to $4/gal (don't laugh), filling up a GT would be $65.00 (16 gal) versus a Ford Excursion $165.00 (44 gal) or a Hummer H2 $128.00 (32 gal). The Excursion will die soon!

Just look at Ford's sales. SUV sales are down 20% year to date
In spite of "Family Plan" pricing almost all of Ford's gas guzzling SUV sales were down big in August (40%) and that's before the latest spike in gas prices due to Katrina hit us.
Year to date sales (Jan 1 - Aug 31)
SUV ------ 2005 ----- 2004
Explorer 183,999 -- 229,582
Expedition 85,872 -- 106,868
Freestar 60,112 --- 72,642
Mountaineer 24,840 -- 31,552
Navigator 18,724 -- 22,308
Aviator 12,378 -- 14,833
Things are gettng so desparate that Ford is already giving family plan pricing AND rebates on the new updated 2006 Explorer.
Yes the high gas prices will effect Mustang GT sales, but the effect will not be as severe as the effect on SUVs because for the most part car people buy Mustang GTs not soccer moms who are carting 3 kids around.

I doubt it...it may kill the GTO though

........another nail in its coffin.Ok..back to the subject.
I'm getting 23 mpg.Just about 3 less gallons then my Honda and 10 more mpg then my Explorer.
So......I'm happy.
Till it hit s 6 bucks a gallon.
Then the Explorer gets trashed.
