Why pay extra money for your Shaker 500/1000 systems if your just gonna revamp the whole thing? WOuldnt it have been cheaper to just get your stang without it?

Well, I for one got the 500 because I needed something to tide me over till spring, when I put my new system in. I am in the process, over the next 4 months, of buying about $3k worth of car audio parts...so it's not like I can just buy everything now and put it in.

I also got the shaker 500 because I wanted the door woofer enclosures. I am going to be putting in 8" JL subs in the door...of course with some custom fabbing. I didn't want to have to cut and mount my own door speakers.

I plan on putting 5 1/4 components in the front with 8" woofers. Rear stage will be a pair of 5 1/4 speakers. The trunk will have one (possibly 2) JL 10w6v2 sub.

Very wise. No custom install can top the beautifully integrated door enlosures for those subs. Those are actually the invisible highmark of the new Shaker systems.

Yeah, was reading an article on hear about the design that went into the door subs - something about them being specially designed - getting great sound and actually saving weight compared to the previous system installed in the Mustang.

Personally I love my SHAKER 1000 and it ain't goin' no where!

Yes, you're right, but as Surf said, I wanted the enclosures. I also sold my Shaker, so I didn't make out too bad in the long run.

I'm a bit confused though...was there a constructive reason for this topic?

Getting a 500 could also be good for resale. Anyone who puts big bucks into an aftermarket system can yank it out and put back the 500 when they sell the car.

Question - If you do not get the Shaker 500/1000, then what speakers come standard and how would the door panels look like? The same only without the sub enclosures?
Yes...the stock system has 4 6x8 speakers. no sub enclosures in the door.

Is the only difference in the two shaker systems the trunk mounted amp/speaker? The head unit and front doors the same system?

If I remember right, there are some more subtle differences between the types of speakers in the doors...at least that's what Dan said in his review that he did a while back. I can't remember the details though.
