05-07 GTs are already faster than the original GT-350s, GT-500s, Mach 1s, Boss 302s, 68 390 used in Bullitt etc. so putting these emblems are ok too?

Just playing devil's advocate.
Although he didn't specify, I think we can infer that we are referring to vehicles of the same generation. In this case, the 05+ models.

love the look of the gt, just wasnt in the cards.

I love my car more than anything, and when my dad came to me hey you want that mustang, aaa a yehh!!

You understand now dont you?
hey, it's cool, you have a better car than I did at 16. A V6 Stang is not a bad first car at all. Being as young as you are, I can understand the insurance issue. I am twice your age with a clean record (amazingly enough), so the insurance is not really an issue. My point is let's not rag on each other for choosing what we did, whether V6 or GT. We all have our reasons.

Again, I got no issue with cloning, but if I made up my GT to look like a GT500, and someday a REAL GT500 called me on it, I think I'd be pretty embarrassed.

The general thought from all the car brands is that its not ok to pass off a clone as the real thing. Lets face it though, not every one can afford the real car in which they are cloning. Especially with dealer adjusted fair market values, or the Barrett Jackson auction prices. If you think about it there are more Hemi powered cars on the road today then were ever produced "back in the day". No one ever seems to bash a hemi clone. I'm sure the same could be said about Yenko Camaro's or any of the others. There is nothing wrong with modifying or cloning a car as long as you don't pass it off as the real thing. One thing I've learned in all my car owning days is that outside of the Mopar 100 percent correct restoration guys, Mustang owners are the most strict bunch of guys when it comes to modifications. If the modifications aren't drag race inspired or "group approved" you get flamed. I currently own an 05 GT, which is the third mustang I've owned, and am thinking about adding some 07 GT500 pieces, if not a making it a clone, or possibly some Foose stuff, and do expect to get flamed. Just the nature of the beast when you step "outside-the-box" and build a clone. I had an 03 Mach 1 which I put a cobra IRS in (I'm a road racer) and you would've thought that I had just killed someone with all the hate comments and flames thrown just because I thought outside the drag racer box. Personally I like the cars where the owners have thought outside the box and have tastefully cloned or modded their cars to make them a little different than the "cookie cutters" and show them for what they are; a clone. Sorry if this offends any one, if so, so be it. If you want to flame me that's cool too.

GT 350, your car sounds nice!!! I think you stole my idea!!!! LOL!!! Post some pics of it when you can!!!

03fridge, you are right about most of us stangers not "thinking outside the box" but there are some of us (me, included) that think just like you and are tired of seeing all of the cookie-cutter stangs running around!!! When I can afford it, mine will definately be different!! I've got several ideas running around in my head, some of them including so-called "clone" parts, but some in the GT 350 flavor, too!!!

Heres a trivia question:

What was the base engine/carb/tranny that the 68 GT/CS was equiped with?

Hint: There are two known to exist.

GT 350 - can I ask you where you got that grille with the fogs in the middle? Looks really well made, is it custom or aftermarket?

So far 71% don't care or are against discriminating against "cloning".

I may start another poll asking what you consider to be "acceptable" modifications. Let me think about how to word it.

That is correct. My point, all clones arent about high performance cars.

Bottom line is there is nothing we can do about those that make clones and there nothing we can do about those that slam "cloners".

Ok, I did my best to capture the different opinions in this thread and came up with a poll.

I think clones are stupid in most cases. Putting non-specific badges on a car is a ricer move. Might as well buy a GT-R badge at Autozone. I am totally against people putting GT500 badges on a regular Mustang. Now adding parts here and there, such as the GT rear bumper to a V6 or GT500 rear bumper to a GT is fine.

I tend to not like clones and I have a Saleen clone, that's pretty messed up, but what do you do if you want a 89 Saleen coupe in Med. Shadow Blue when they only made one of them which belonged to the VP of sales of Saleen, you build a clone. All I have left is the five lug conversion and Stern wheels to have it complete. I may be considered a poser by some but I am honest to anyone who ask if the car is real and if the real Saleen would happen to line up beside me at a stoplight, all they would see is taillights in a race. To be honest I would rather see someone clone a car and customize it than to see them hack up an original.

In the early 70's even some the SS Chevies started to run 2 barrel carbs on ther small block....darn the embargo. One car I came across was a loaded 66'Impala SS with a six cyl. w/air,rag top, variable heater control, cruize, power windows the works.I even had two different 64' SS Chevies Impalas with 3 on the trees and no provision for the auto or four speed in the console.I had some explaining to do and was severly accused of cloning these cars...but I had proof to back up they weren't clones. One of my favorites that I had was a 340HP 409 coupe with three on the tree.I had the window sticker on the car..no proof needed.

The 64'SS had a 300HP 327c.it had an odd ball three on the tree combo.I owned this ride back in 86'.

there is nothing wrong with using Shelby,Roush, and Saleen parts just don't claim your car is something it's not. If i did a Shelby conversion i would leave off the cobra emlems because it's not a GT500, but nothing wrong with having the styling of one.

What if the "clone" actually blows away the original's performance? Would the haters have a problem with that? I wouldn't - unless the "clo(w)ner" tries to pass it off as the genuine article. In fact, I would just love to see someone make a, oh let's say a GT500, clone that can beat the real thing done for the same price or less! (You know they're out there! ) So clone away, people.
