Who's getting the extended warranty on their '05?

I figure that the bean counters have a lot more information than I do and therefore, they wouldn't be selling me a warranty if they thought it would be necessary. I guess I should look at it as insurance, but I'd rather just stick some cash in a savings account each month and use it for repairs if necessary.

I am not getting an extended warranty because my plan for now is to get the 05 because I love it and have to have it, but I don't plan to have it for more than 3 years. (it will be replaced by Cobra/Shelby/Mach???) don't know which yet.

I owned a 94 t'bird and had the tranny go out three times at 1000 large each time the extended warranty more than paid for itself. Come to find out their was a flaw in those 94-95 auto OD trannies. Had I not had the warranty the 2nd and 3rd fix would have been on me until Ford ID'd the problem.
If you plan on trading up in 2 or 3 years the ext warranty probably is NOT worth the money.
Personally I'm gonna drive my stang 20-25 per year so for me it is a good bet

I have a garage full of tools and an OBDII scanner. I'll try and get a factory service manual once I get the car.
barring a major failure (engine, transmission) I think it pays off for me to save that money and make any minor repairs myself.

I plan on taking care of the mustang as good(or better) than i would myself. Insurance is really the only assurance I need. I am heavily relying on the mustang not to have any motor glitches, computer problems, or anything that could break down that has nothing to do with the way you care for it. Basically a lemon.
I trust Ford on getting it right, so I am not getting it. Besides I will have the normal warranty and soon my plan is to become a Ford Auto tech. (I will attend next summer)

I got the extended warranty on my 626. I've had it for 85K miles and over 5 years. I have not had a single problem with it. I got the warranty on my Dodge caravan and the three times I had problems ($600+ each) not a single one was covered. It seems like if there are design flaws they would show up within the three years of the included warranty.
I was set against getting the extended, but now I'm not sure. Now that I think about it, I wasn't dumping the clutch at 4000 RPM in my 626!
Many dealers offer to sell an extended warranty around the time the included warranty is up. I'm betting I would have to pay more buying it late if I changed my mind.

I never buy any extened warranty, let alone a new vehicle. The money you save can easily pay for the rare repairs or replacement of any product. Those warranties are there to make money for the people selling them. They are not your friend. If your going to modify, you will void it anyway. Plus you will not pay anymore to purchase at end of factory, most likely less. Why would anyone want to pay for, plus any interest on something they can't use for three years anyway?

I was talked into it at the dealer. Wish I didn't get it because I'm trading the car in a few months anyway. Called the dealer and he said I have to stop in so they can check the mileage and get me a refund. IMO Its a good thing to have if you plan on keeping the car but if you can't afford it up front you know you don't have to get it at time of purchase.

Right I'm thinking no. I've had it on 2 cars before and only had to use it once for something that I messed up. It's more of just a money maker for the dealer so if I keep my non-technically inclined hands off anything important I should be ok.

Most of you are going to void the warranty anyway when the blowers, turbos, exhaust, rims, PCM reburns go on, so spend the extra money in mods rather than planning on the car breaking down. If the car does break down, you have to pay to play...

Several previous cars we drove the wheels off of included: Dodge 500L+, Camry 247K, T-Bird 240K, Jag 175K, several others over the years only logged 80-150K before we got rid of them. Only remember two cars we had for less than 3 years and limited miles; both a lease and one of them a real lemon
Yea.... we both use to drive a lot of miles, now I only log ~900/wk and hte GT will be the wife's toy. We buy and keep what we like. So for us the extended is an obvious choice. However, for those who are going to drive a lot less and trade it in after 3-4 years why bother.

This will be my third almost new or new car. None have given me any problems except manufactures defect. I have also found out that everytime I have a problem I should call FORD and ask if there is a recall. I have blown a head gasket on the 95 Mustang and cracked the intake on the 97 T-Brid. After people talked to me, I found out both were UN-notified recalls. I saved money by making some calls first. stinks they have those. I think ALL recalls should be notifed. I think a lot of people get cheated this way.

I would like it if Fords extended plan was like the mazda's plan. I extended the warrenty on the Tribute to 100K, if after that time or mileage I have not used it, I will get the purchase price back. That is what the contract I signed says. We only have 37K on it now so I have a while before I see any refund. So, since I am able to get the money back on the plan I saw it as an insurance plan and opted for it. If I use it good if not I get the money back.

90% of the time the extended warranty is a waste of money. Any serious issues should be handled on a recall. I've never gotten one.
If you're really paranoid, most insurance agencies have a policy you can get on new cars that they'll cover any repair over $500 up to 80-100K miles and its usually alot cheaper than what the dealer's extended warranty costs you. I've had that on one of my cars and was great to use.
