Who Knows an Official Ford Source that Calls the Platform D2C?
I've talked to 2 Ford folks who worked on the S197 Mustang, and neither of them refer to the platform as "D2C". One of them specifically said they did not find this Wikipedia article accurate, both in the use of the name 'D2C' as well as the reference to a derivation of a Mazda chassis.
This has puzzled me for awhile, since I read posts here where "D2C" is mentioned. I have not read that nomenclature in magazines, and both Ford folks don't acknowledge the name "D2C".
Will the real Mustang chassis name please stand up?
Any ideas where "D2C" crept into the vernacular here?
Thanks!

It appeared in lot of magazines when the 2005 1st came out, so my guess is that it might have been in a Ford press release.
Links below use "D2C" in car and driver and motortrend

D2C is the platform description used in the Global Shared Technologies program.
I do not believe it was built using the C1 platform at all, but perhaps was influenced by some aspects such as the suspension.

Would you define what the Global Shared Technologies program is? Thanks!
Here's an official Ford press release which mentions the GST:
http://media.ford.com/newsroom/relea...?release=24382
Basically, the "D2C" is a GST platform name describing a unique platform current used for the S197 Mustang GT. Now, Ford could use the D2C platform for another car (like a Lincoln 2-door sports luxury car) and make changes as needed but it'd still be based on the D2C.
From wikipedia describing the Mk 2 UK Focus:
The Mk 2, codenamed C307, uses the Ford C1 platform which is shared with the Volvo S40, V50 and C70, Mazda3 and Focus C-MAX. Ford calls this platform sharing programme "Global Shared Technologies".
While Wikipedia references may not be gospel, I've picked up on the usage of "GST" in multiple news articles, press releases, and even on Ford websites so it must be anchored to some form of truth.
