The dealer said I should upgrade to the aluminum wheels on my GT. But I wanted the standard wheels. He said the paint would chip off. It is still clean and unscheduled so I was gonna change the order. Anybody with standard wheels give me your opinion on them please. Are they painted?
Thanks

They maybe powder coated but they won't chip. They are great and have that real retro look to them. Can't go wrong with this fine ford product.

I like the stock wheels better as well. Now if it was the 18" Fanblades, that would be a different story.

You might mention to the "Stealer" that the Aluminum Wheels are painted (clear coat) and would chip the same. Don't worry about it, your wheels will be fine.

Tell your dealer to mind his own business and order what you asked for

sounds like mr. dealer wants to make a few extra bucks.

they will chip, but just as any other rims will. At least the grey paint will hide it. You chip/scratch those clearcoated aluminum rims, and you will see it.

I also have the standard bullit rims. They are really nice, and look great with the car. They are the best wheels I have ever owned. I am sure that the upgrade rims are nice too - but only get them if you like them better.

Hey Man, GO FOR THE BULLITTS! (AKA The Standard Wheels) They Look a Hundred Percent Better than the UpGraded (TRUCK) Wheels. They Will Be VERY HARD TO CHIP! The Grey Center is Powder Coated. If you don't know what that means, They Charge the Metal that the Wheel is made from and it becomes Magnetic. They then Spray the Wheels With a Magnetic Powder and It Sticks to the Wheels. Then They Bake Them at a VERY HIGH TEMP. It's WAY Tougher than just Paint.

Tell Your Dealer to MIND HIS OWN BUSSINES! Order What YOU WANT. He's Not Paying for it YOU ARE! That would be like him telling you, NO! Don't Buy The Redfire (If that were the Color you wanted), Buy the Screaming Yellow, It's alot more Flashy. Well Maybe you Don't like Yellow, are you gonna listen to him?

The Upgrades Will end up with the Clear Coat that Protects them, Yellowed and Streaked From Cleaning the Brake Dust Off of Them! Trust Me Every Single Alluminum Clear Coated Wheel I have Ever Owned Streaked.

Ok so another question. If I change my order now while it is clean and unscheduled, will it delay getting a VIN and Build Date? BTW thank you to all the answers I received. I was hoping you would feel the way you all did))

I saw an F-150 with the optional rims on it (well they looked exactly like them). AH-Ha that is where those rims belong, on a truck or tauras. What was ford smoking when they selected those rims as optionals. the 18 inch fan blades is what I call a TRUE Upgrade/Optional rim....DO you Agree???? I am sorry but if they were going to give me those things for free I would not take them. As far as that salesman, (charlatan) is concerned, tell him "No thanks!!" My bullitts are almost 4 years old and no chips, other than minor scratches from balancing, etc. the new stang looks sooo sweet with the bullitts and even better with the 18 inchers. The optional smust go ASAP :notnice:

You won't have any more trouble with the standard wheels chipping than you would with the upgrade. Both are factory clearcoated (not that that even makes a difference anyhow). I have a 2002 with painted bullits, 41K miles, and no problems at all with paint chips. Now about curb rash.....well, that's another problem in and of itself (guess I should learn to be a little more careful!)

Maintenance diff is a non-issue. Order the ones you like, you may decide to upgrade them later anyhow

Ford should of made the Concept wheel standard & the Bullit optional. They would have made more $$$ per vehicle.

The standard wheel (IMO) fits the "retro look" of the car to a T!

Totally agree that the standard wheels fit the retro look of the car much better.

Yesterday I saw each type on Mustangs. It was no contest!

Allison, I like both wheels, the Bullitts and the "upgrades" but I think the Bullitts fit in better with the car's retro theme. And they don't cost extra! Go with the Bullitts... you'll be happy you did. Often times, salesmen are more interested in boosting their commission than giving their customers what they truly want!
