Ive got a 99 Camaro now and really like the new Mustangs. I was wondering how they compare. Which one feels faster and which handles better?

I traded in my 99 Z28 for a 05 GT. I have not regretted it one bit.

During the first test drive I felt the Mustang lacked a little punch right off the line. The other this I noticed was the seating position, you really sit low in an F-Body and I missed that for a little while.

However I was in love with the Mustang and felt is was better in all other aspects. There is really no contest. Now that my Mustang is broken in, it feels faster than my Z28 did and it certainly handles better, looks better inside and out, and has much better fit and finish. The body panels line up tightly, it's a quality car.

I remember when I was looking at a 05 Mustang at a dealership the sales guys parked the Mustang next to my Camaro. Wow, the Z28 might as well have been invisible.

Style + Performance is a powerful combination. If you go for a Mustang you will not look back!!

Not really.... He's asking GM converts which would have driven both and would be the most unbiased

I'll be going from a '79 TA (with 34K miles) to an '06 GT, so I'm also curious about other's experiences going from an F-body to the new Mustang. Since my TA makes 320 ft/lbs at 2200 rpm and the Stang makes 320 ft/lbs at 4500 rpm I'm expecting that the new GT won't have quite as much punch off the line as the TA, but will be a better performer in almost every other respect. My TA (WS6 with an auto transmission) will easially spin the tires from a dead stop on dry pavement every time. 360's from a dead stop are also no problem with the TA. From what I've read in other posts, it doesn't sound like the new GT (with an auto transmission) lights up the tires as easially unless power breaking is applied. Regardless, I know I'll love the new Stang ... the GT vert that I test drove was awsome.

P.S. I'm scheduled for a build week of 8/22

The GT is a beast in a cage... dangerous and powerful... and very impressive... add a Tune, (Pred or SCT) and you have opened the gate on the cage... uhoh...

I *thought* my GT was very nice after I bought it.. lotsa low-end torque and power on demand. But I had been away from that kinda power for 4 year... after I put the CAI and Pred tune on, it *really* took off... what a HUGE difference...

Fit and finish? Not too shabby... standard muscle car... there is some cheepness to it, (but what did I expect for the price?) but everything works well and it is so nice to sit in...

I am going from a 2000 LS1 Trans Am to a 06 v6 mustang. I know there will be a power drop, but the mustang is roomier inside and I don't have to look thought the t tops to see a stop light. I will miss the TA, but I will enjoy putting regular gas in and getting alot better gas milage. :drive:

fFrmer F-body, though from a V6 to the Mustang GT.

Styling and interior I like alot more. Sadly, I think the Camaro had more nik-nak storage. Bigger door pockets and had a storage bin in front of the shifter as well as the center console.

Would I trade back? Nope.

Unless you are just obsessed with striaght line speed, go for the GT.

Fit, finish, handling, styling are all superior in the GT. Power can be had with a few bucks.

FYI - I had a 01 WS6 about a year before I got my 05 GT. I'd take the GT every day and twice on saturday nights.

I have heard about 100x more "man that car is sweet" in the 3 months I've had the GT than I heard in the 2 years I had the Ws6
