Where are all the old Mustangs?
We went to the Manes and Planes show in Oshkosh, WI this weekend and had a great time. A couple observations - Our new body style was well represented and out in force. Very few Fox bodies - did any 82, 83 or 85 Mustangs survive?
Even more amazing, there were few early Mustangs, especially in the stock class. I remember going to Mustang shows in the 80's and if you didn't have an early Stang, you weren't really welcome.
They need to bring some vendors in to the show. Only had a couple there. I did get a Ford Showroom Bullitt Poster and a hat.

I saw an 84 Fox body at the local show and shine on the 28 June. Most of the Mustangs at the show and shine were S197 models and 1994-2004 models with the occasional sprinkling of 1964-1973. It would seem that the smaller mustangs have all but vanished.

A lot of the fox's have been run into the ground, crashed, or turned into track-only vehicles. Figure even the newest are 15 years old, and it is not the norm to being restoring fox's like classics are.
Why not a lot of classics? Well, again its been a longtime and overall numbers are low, there are a lot of "projects" that have been sitting in someones garage/barn/backyard for the past 20years. Of those drivable, some have been so nicely restored/resto-modded that the owners are afraid to drive them on the street so they sit un-used in the garage.

Manes and Planes Car Show
The show I attended is held annually around the end of June/ July 4th. The show is held at the Pioneer Airport grounds of the EAA Air Museum in Oshkosh, WI. The theme of the show is Mustangs of the P-51 and Ford varieties. The entry fee is 20 dollars, and for an additional 5 dollars, you get a professional photo shoot with the P-51 "Paul II." They e-mail you the picture within a couple of days. I had mine on Monday. During the afternoon, they do a P-51 fly by. This year they had 2 planes. You also get free access to the museum.
It's a really good time and there were lots of nice cars, including a Foyt Coyote Mustang, which I didn't know existed till I got home. Mustang Enthusiast Magazine is one of the show sponsors as well.

Well, one of the old ones is sleeping in my garage, but there is a new one resting peacefully next to it as well. Haven't participated in any shows in a long time (or even spectated). Maybe I should start visiting some if there aren't many showing up for people to admire. I'd hate to deprive a young future Mustang driver of experiencing the heritage of the breed.

I actually ended up with an 06 after getting sick of looking for a 69/70 sportsroof for 3+ years. Someday I will have one.
