Ok, I'm coming back to the original question. I say mid-to late winter. Here's why: A Ford saleman said that last winter, he had an 05 yellow GT that sat in the showroom for a relatively long time (weeks to months). They had to put black racing stripes on to move it in the off-season. This is just a fact a life in the Winter Months for this part of the Country.

We've been forecasting plenty of supply for well over a year now. I thought for sure that I'd be able to walk onto a dealer lot in January of this year and find plenty of the GT, no dice so I ended up ordering. People are STILL getting over MSRP for these cars. If the 07 model year starts to show a surplus of supply I'd be surprised.

Supply of V6 Mustangs already has exceeded demand. Most dealers have lots of V6s sitting on their lots. Proof of over supply of V6 Mustangs is that Ford is now selling a lot of them to rental companies.

In addition, Mustang sales are already sliding:
US sales 2005:

Mar 17,926
Apr 19,559
May 19,721
Jun 14,470
Jul 10,577
Aug 10,921

GTs are still in short supply. I say it will be another 6 months before GT supply catches up with demand (March 06).

But Ford is going to delay incentives on the Mustang as long as possible to maintain the impression that Mustang sales are great. Also, AAI has been working 10 hour shifts and 6 days a week for a long time. Ford will most likely cut the overtime and reduce production before they resort to incentives.

My take:

GT=should start to see under MSRP buy end of 06 model year
V6= Probably will go for invoice unless it has the pony package
Economy= all depends on how crazy gas gets
Katrina= horrible event that could have been even worse
Rita=go away (gas prices go crazy see economy)
President Bush= hates black people! j/k
Kanye West= hates George Bush

I drive by a dealer on my work commute every day who has had three '05 V6 verts (2 red, 1 black) on the lot since June. Now I see he has '06 inventory arriving.

With cold weather approaching here they will be discouting the V6's, but I agree, it may be until next summer before we see any discount on GT's. The demand is still too high.

I like V10's prediction, since I plan on ordering a GT Vert next spring/early summer his timeframe will workout just great!

Yea, post a photo.

I'd like to see how many GTs they have.

Many of the dealers are going to try to stretch this MSRP or MSRP + markup as long as they can. Ford sales have been sliding for years and the dealers have had to sell almost everything they have at big discounts, so they are going to try to make a quick buck on the Mustang as long as they can.

But sooner or later supply will exceed demand (even for GTs) and good deals will be easy to get.

I have looked all over Ford Direct in NC, SC, TN, VA & GA....... but I can not find a Redfire Vert with Black & Black, Pony and IUP.
Thanks for the heads up on the Raleigh store. Ford Direct says that they have 17 2006 Verts. Only one of which is a GT. However, no Redfires with the Pony Package.
If you see one let me know.

We are currently 8 deep for GT orders that will take us up pretty much into the spring of 2006 (with one of those orders being mine ), and then summer with more people into getting them. I don't see GT's getting abundantly available probably till the beginning of the 2007 model year, and that is a guess. All depends on how the spring ane summer of '06 goes in terms of buyers for the ones out there. Only time will tell.

Dont' be afraid to negotiate at least 500 UNDER invoice on a V6. Advertized invoice still includes lots of dealer profit. Plus, when you sit down to go through the F&I process, they always tack on $269 -- $499 admin fee. Negotiating $500 -- 800 UNDER advertized invoice is a good hedge when its time to sit down in the little room w/ the F&I folks....

Eric.
I don't want to hijack this thread but, Eric, I would like to know how you come about with buying a V6 Mustang for $500 under INVOICE? At the dealer I work at, we have 1 V6 'vert, thats all. The whole area where were located in, there aren't a whole lot of Mustangs period, GT's or V6's. Just a little info, we had a V6 deluxe, that was a basic as all basic. The only options were the Auto trans, Ext Sport Group, and the upgraded wheels with knockoffs. To let you know, there is only a lttle more than $650 left under invoice. Plus in Pa, there isn't any "dealer admin fees", there pretty much illegal, just like doc fees in this state can only cost $55.00 no more.

I have been doing this for 8 years, and is my career, and I love it, but when the time comes when you start selling cars consistantly under invoice, then it is time to leave, as it isn't enjoyable. People need to be able to make a living, and selling cars under invoice all the time wouldn't do it. That is just like going into a Best Buy, and asking to buy a 42" LCD TV for $600 under the cost the company bought it from the manufacturer. That won't happen. I am all in favor for good deals, don't get me wrong (we discounted our V6's this year) but a business is allowed to make some profit, albeit a small one. I may get flamed, but this is my 0.02 cents.

Well, with everything being said about the economy and such, my take on the original question is, I hope that Supply NEVER meets Demand for the new 'stang!! 'Course, I do build them in Flat Rock, so maybe job security is driving my opinion!!!
