When it takes 8 years for the 60k tune up!

Wife's 07 Mustang finally hit 60k this month. Not bad considering the car is 8 years old now.

Gonna replace spark plugs, brake pads, change oil, and fuel filter.

I've not even checked, does this car have a cabin filter?

Anything else to suggest changing? I will replace the tires, but that's going to be about a month down the road. Don't know if there is anything else I'm forgetting to check.

Mine is also 8 years old and just clicked over 77K miles. But, it is also my daily driver and only car. I believe it does have a cabin filter, too. Not positive.

Does have a cabin filter... it's on the passenger side beneath the cowl on the firewall.

Also, you might want to change that fuel filter a little more often. I've seen them pretty bad at 30k

Fair enough, we actually bought the car at 54,008 one year ago. She put about 8,000 miles on it in the last year. (fortunately she works about 1 mile from the house, keeps the mileage low) It had really never crossed my mind until I got in it yesterday and noticed she is at 62k miles.

Watch for that battery to give out quickly. That will happen with a lot of short trips. I would plug it into a battery tender once a week or so.

I've had my '05 GT for 10 years last month and just hit 65k miles. I did the spark plugs at about 30k miles with no problems.

Did anyone mention flushing the brake fluid yet? That's a must. The coolant could be getting old too.

If it's filled with synthetic oil, the axle is 'lubed for life' (page 9 of the service manual.) Otherwise the schedules is change diff oil at 150k unless it's an F/E450, F550, or a motorhome, then it's every 50k.

From the shop manual.

And specific to the Mustang of 2007: The owner's manual says same.

I wanna say the Mustangs came with synthetic oil? But either way, it's 150K, unless the axle's been submerged, or there was a leak, or there's been service.

For mine, the oil is now synthetic Royal Purple, and was changed at about 70K due to a bad wheel bearing on the right side. Note that she DID NOT leak any, just the bearing decided to exit this world. I would have otherwise not even had the change. And when the axle was apart for this (just the shafts, mind) the gears looked *perfect*. No wear, no metal, nothing. Just beautiful, oily awesomeness in that punkin'. That was whatever Ford had put in. Even that fluid looked pretty. I think it would indeed have lasted for life, but... that's just me.

I'd not really worry about the axle fluid, myself.

Thanks for the great advice in here guys. It's much appreciated. Glenn I hook the battery up to the battery machine at work every time I change the oil and it's always been fine. Must be a good quality battery, because most times her car doesn't even have enough time to warm up before she gets to work. She works 1.6 miles from home so yea, I do keep that one checked up a bit.

Maybe it was the long trips to NY and then CA on the interstates with all that truck traffic. I can't explain it but a new filter is now in place. I had a heck of a time getting the plastic cowl piece to fit snug against the windshield afterwards but I eventually succeeded. Nothing is ever easy.
Thanks again for the post.

My 2005 GT is 9.5 years old now and just hit the 85,000+ mark. Had all that done around 60K, by my trusted mechanic. Don't remember all that was done since I had it done about 3 or so years ago. The maintenance schedule booklet will provide a list what you should have done.

Well, our '08 GT will likely hit 30,000 sometime mid 2015.

My '07 FX4 S-cab F-side just tripped 50,000 a couple weeks and 128 miles ago.

Our '01 Merc Grand Marquis should trip 70,000 this year (I think I'm gonna find some nice late model 17x8 Mustang wheels, use hub centric 1.5" spacers, and fit with 235/55-17 rubber on it in place of 225/60-16s & "Lacey Spokes").

My DD '95 T-bird LX has almost 94,000 but my '92 Sport is up over 153,000 (but it drives so sweet).

"Wife Unit's" '03 Forester is at 101,000 (I'll do T-belts and water pump kit in Spring) .....
..... and my '77 F150 4x4 is over 105,000 already (I can't wear tires out on it before they crack!).

My two Gold Wings have somewhere between 70-80K each, but my '74 Trident is at around 17,000.

At the rate my 08 was going it was going to take 12 years for the 60k tune up. It had 30k when I traded it in last April.

The alternator might be replaced too, had two fail around the 60k mark, I do cabin filter twice a year, RockAuto has the charcoal ones at a good price, also do the fuel filter yearly. Serpentine belt, pull the MAF and spray it with MAF cleaner, new air filter, pull the throttle body and spray it with throttle body cleaner(not carb spray), if you have a CAI clean the filter, re-balance tires and alignment if needed.
