Thumbs up

Not to many new posts lately so I though I would start another.

I know some of us are waiting until spring or summer to get our 05's. But my question is when would ford stop building 05's and start with the 06's. I will probably get mine in the spring but if I wait next july or august maybe that would be about the time for the 06's to start rolling down the line. I imagine it's kind of up in the air because production on the 05 has been pushed back so far. I wonder if they would shorten the production year of the 05 or just move up the date for the 06's Anybody have an idea?

That's a tough question. It really does change year to year and vehicle to vehicle. Most likely Job 1 will be in September again. Thats seems to be the average model change month. It should bring a small price increase. The car will pretty much be unchanged so I would get one as soon possible and start enjoying it.

They want to push 180,000 cars out for MY05. They run 2 10 hour shifts a day at AAI. In order to make 180,000 in one calender year, they would need to do 27 or so cars an hour. Thats without including Mazda 6s. Someone posted on here saying the plant could do 68 an hour at max. So, say that 18 of those are Mazda 6s (probably way too low an estimate)

180000 / 50 = 3600 hours = 180 days, so thats six months of production. Any time after that the changeover can occur.

Most car companies seem to send out new models in the summer. Ford seems to be behind this year, maybe because of all the new models they have.

My guess is that the 06's will drop in Sept. of 2005, Ford will have a better estimate of how quickly they CAN be made after this 05 run.

They'll be better prepared next year.......the hype will die down a little next year, so without special ordering you'll probably be able to snag "your" car without that much of a fight.

Ford's not producing 2004 Mustangs right now, correct?

I think that was the majority of his question however......I'm sure they 2005 will end......then there's a break of retraining updating how to assemble new features....then the 2006's are produced.

Not a one day switch.

Will go back to the normal september release I'm sure.

Sounds like waiting to buy a computer, you'll never buy one then.

I haven't seen any information from ford indicating how many cars they want to builf for the 2005 model year. All the information I have read indicates production of 180,000 per calendar year. I don't think they really care what model year the cars are "wearing".

The Focus is already on sale, and the 500 and Freestyle go on sale in July or thereabouts. The Mustang has traditionally seen the model changeover occur in September.

The Ford engineering manager at Foxboro said that the original plan was 180,000, but they were making provisions to build up to 195,000 / year.
@ 195K / year that would be 2 x 10 hour shifts and that would be the maxium # they could possibly build.

Ford does care what MY the cars are wearing, because of federal regulations that say they have to cease selling vehicles that don't meet the 2006 fed requirements at some point in time. For and example see the steering wheel thread.

Model Year production gets changed over 1 - 3 months before the official release of the next MY. As 05StangGT posted, the changeover to MY 2006 Production should occur around July 2005. Dealers will most likely have to place their last orders for 2005 MY Stangs in May 2005. They will probably be able to start ordering 2006 MY Stangs in June 2005. And the 2006 Mustang will be officially released the 1st week of October 2005.

Fair enough. I concede "does not care" was poor choice for words. However, your statement only further solidifies my argument which was that the number of units produced in a given model year has nothing to do with the time that they decide to switch to the next model year (contrary to what Grantsdale was eluding to).

I wish I could wait for the '06 to come out, specifically an SE, but there is no way... can't even see myself lasting another 4-6 months. Might lease the '05 for a 2 year lease, and then buy a 2007 cobra, or something like that, when the lease runs out.

Right, once the production end date comes about, production ENDS. There are always several hundred orders for units that never get built at every dealer. We still have 60 or so 04 stangs que'd showing in our computer. They just stop making them.
