What's it Worth?
Ok, wife says I can have a new Shelby GT, but I gotta sell my car first (I know, December isn't the ideal time) and I honestly don't know what a reasonable price would be, person to person. You can see the mods in my sig. There are some touched-up scratches on the CDC front spoiler and I have the original Pirellis with 21K on them. JLT with mid-grade tune, Carroll's sig on dash (might keep), and RKSport hood. I also have the original hood, probably sell separately. I might try Craigs List, but watchya think? Opinons wanted.
21K miles. All options except the Shaker 1000. If I hadn't told you about the springs, you wouldn't know, except that the car sits level (down 3/4 inch) instead of with its rear in the air, like from the factory. There is no difference in ride quality, just looks. No damage except the scratches in the front spoiler (touched-up) and a crack in the windshield (stupid truck). Windshield will be replaced before sale.

Mods, although nice, are worth nothing unless you can find the person that has your exact same tastes, and the cash to bank roll the car without the aide of financing. NADA value of a 21,000 mile GT is all the bank will loan on it...you would be lucky to get 16k on trade.
With rebates, and incentives a new GT can be had for around $25k....and that comes with the full warranty and a car that is 3 years newer...
Not what I want to hear, N4, but that's why I'm asking. There are several comparble cars locally on Craig's list for 22k-23k, completely stock, with slightly higher mileage. I was hoping for 23k, but I hear what you're saying about personal taste. I've got the stock parts. Worth more put back and selling the parts separately?

Here's a guy who just bought an 07 GT/CS for around $24 with 7000 miles....
Like I said though...if someone has your similar tastes, they will pay the money to get your car. Personally I think you car looks great, and if I were still in the market I would consider 20-21 since I would do similar things to the car that you did...
Good luck, and I hope you get what you need!
Just remember, the 9600 extra for the Shelby GT has $0.0 profit in it for the dealer, its the same as a regular GT. WHY on Earth you want to change in your car can loose all that money to buy the same car with some bolt-ons is a mystery to me though
One word: SHELBY. It's been a mystical word ever since I got into Mustangs 26 years ago. Then they went for over $10,000, when you could get a nice '66 289 vert for around $3k. Original Mustangs were cheap, and everywhere, but even then a Shelby inspired awe. I missed out on it then, and never thought the opportunity would present itself again. Well, here it is, and nothing has changed. A Shelby is still overpriced, impractical, and cheaper to duplicate. Why is it that important to me? I don't know, but the wife says I can have one, and that would be reason enough for many of us to jump on the opportunity. Plus, I gotta dealer willing to take X-plan. As you've said elsewhere, though, I could mod my car into something better, cheaper. Very true, but it will never be a Shelby. Keep the common sense coming at me. Maybe I'll wake up and just enjoy what I have. Thanks.
On the other hand, if you plan on keeping it for a long long long time, the SGT will eventually grow in value probably much more than a GT, especially in comparison to the numbers of GT's and the relatively limited nature of the SGT. However with some suspension work, your car would be better in terms of the actual car and still looks totally awesome!
Have you looked at the SGT's up close? They had one when I was ordering my GT. Honestly, it wasn't that impressive. Looked exactly like the GT I was buying except lowered with silver stripes, a hood scoop, pins and a grill. The interior is exactly the same. It looked as not-special as a Shelby can get IMHO. But on the other hand, if Shelby has that magic for you that makes you just love your car that much more and you're willing to go through the hassle, more power to you!

I'll give you $500 cash right now.
No but really, good luck with the sale of your car. Id say the above mentioned prices are good. I think you would have better luck taking off some mods and selling it as stock as possible, minus some appearance mods.
Personally I never buy anything used that has performance mods.

Jim,
Some things to consider, if you will,
1. Your going to take a BIG bath selling that car now, your better to wait until spring.
2. Shelby: In name only. period nothing more about it. Can you honestly rationalize that ol' Shel contributed ANYTHING to the development of this vehicle other than his name. You cannot compare the old Shelby's to the new ones (apples to oranges). The older shelbys were very much different from their mustang counterparts. The new ones, not so. all upgrades come strictly from FRPP or the Ford parts bin.
If name is all your concerned about then have at it and enjoy. I tend to look for substance for my extra dollars, and for the money there are several other options that will give you a better bang for you buck.. for example Bullitt (essentially the same as a SGT, Roush Stage 1 or 2 for example) I know where your shopping, so look at all your options...
after it's all said and done though, it's your coin, do what you wish..

I'm not the biggest Shelby fan by any means, especially from the time the Shelby Charger turbo came out in the 80's to present day. I admire his effort in the 60's but I am a GM fan for old Muscle cars as the average hopped up Nova will crush Shelby's best effort(AC Ace conversions aside). You already have the sig on the dash, so it has more Shelby imput the the SGT does. They are giving them away at invoice, its doubtful this will have any collector status in 40 years. Buy it if you like, but you are definitely not going to see any return on investment. Like the Bullitt, its a cool car and and ok buy as long as you don't already own an S197. I'm my third car this year so I am not exactly the poster child for keeping cars long term. Just don't think Barret Jackson when it comes to new cars, that stupidity bubble is going to burst long before a modern car reaches collectable status. There are used SGT's at Carmax in the $20s now.
The ShelbyGT is a stock GT sent out to Nevada to have some FRPP installed. $10,000.00 upgrade seen on the window sticker.
The Shelby GT/SC which 5.0 Mustang & Super Ford mag featured in their Jan.08 issue. maybe a better choice. But it is still the same concept but with a supercharger. I have checked out a couple of the ShelbyGT in person but was not inpressed. There was some bad workmenship.
1. After drilling the hood for the pins. the paint wasn't touched up.metal shavings everywhere.
2. the tubed grill is an insert not a completely new grill.
I'l stop there..Before you purchase one make sure you check it out first.
Good luck with your search..

Have you checked Kelly blue book? CL has a lot of over priced items, what are the mustangs going for on auto trader in your area?

I did a quickie with a Denver zip code, you may want to re do it for a more accurate quote. If this is accurate you might be able to get close to 23,000 for it.

Wow. Your comments are very much appreciated, and are being heard loud and clear. You guys are killing my "rationalization" of a SGT purchase. I guess if I need to rationalize it to myself, something is wrong? For $5k or so, I could get a supercharger and still be lighter than a GT500. The FRPP handling pack is about a grand. Of course, I'd still need some aftermarket tires and wheels, but I don't really care for the wheels on the SGT anyway. I like the Shelby Redlines. The salesman just contacted me again to reiterate that he will take X-plan on a new 08 SGT, but you guys have me thinking...Does an SGT seem like a waste of money because it is, or because I'm cheap? Will I kick myself later for passing on a "real" Shelby at X-plan like I do now for not grabbing that $8000 GT350, or that $14000 Pantera when I had the chance?
Expletive!!! I should have started a poll. I appreciate the comments. Keep 'em coming if you got 'em.
