What's it Worth?
I saw a moderately modded( new front and rear fascia, dual exhaust, side scoops, intake+tune, stripes) 2005 Sonic Blue V6 mustang in my area that sold for just over 18k at a dealership just about 2 months back. It only had about 5000 miles on it but still, it was a v6 and yours is a GT. So if you go the private seller route I think youd be able to pull more than that much out of your car.
Bump. Ok, it's 5 months later, and I'm still thinking of trading in for an SGT. To complicate things, GT500 prices have come down to MSRP in many places (I don't mind travelling) and the "more bang for the buck" issue has me concerned. I was surprised by the "Shelby isn't worth it" opinions I got, especially from this crowd, but only asked because I wanted to hear what you guys had to say. After thinking non-stop about the SGT all this time, I finally put my car on Craigslist for $21k two days ago, and have a prospective buyer wanting to see the car tomorrow. (Sounds very interested, but you know how it works.) Not only am I worried that I may be selling it for too little, but since I don't have a Shelby yet, I am now having nostalgic feelings for my GT. Considering my mods, and since it's now spring, is that price a steal (for someone else), or should I take anything close to that and run? I have another vehicle I can use till it gets replaced. If that happens, I then need to decide on SGT or GT500. Opinions welcome...
Hey,
I felt the same exact way you did about the SVT's the SVT's had a lot more bite in 96 than a mustang GT did. But none the less I took the plunge and bought a Cobra instead of the GT. Now I've gone the other route took a GT and made it my own. Looks nicer IMO than a new Shelby is faster than most lightly modded GT500's but it's not a GT500. But I know how you feel. It's not the analitical side of your brain that's making this choice. You know your going to loose your azz on this so why don't you just minimize your loss's by the following.
1) Put two offers on craig's / ebay etc.. list one modded and one stock
2) See which gets more intrest if the stock one gets more intrest then put it back to stock. The modded one is surley going to get low balled big time.
3) Put it back to stock and sell parts seprately.
4) buy a USED SGT there not worth the extra money we all know that but like everything else your paying for the name. I'd buy a used one and satisfy your wallet.
I would love to sell my Turbo Mustang GT and but a Shelby VertGT500 but I'll never get out of it what I put in it. Nobody will ever give me 40K for everything I have in it. If I could get 40K then I would go get a GT500 but I have to be realistic and I'll be keeping my car a very long time.

You've just made another one of my mental arguments that I'm having with myself. I've talked to others who say that they will never get out of their car what they have in it. That is normal, as cars naturally depreciate. They're not real estate. But I can't help but to be hesitant to dump money into a GT when it will never be more than a GT. I probably wouldn't mod a SGT that much, other than a few minor items, and I wouldn't be able to afford to mod a GT500 till after it was paid off. I haven't modded in a year or so now, and I can't seem to decide whether to scratch the itch, or just get a new itch.
The buyer I mentioned before just left. He offered me $19K, or $2k less than I advertised. We're still talking. (he was attracted to it because of the mods) It's only been online for two days, so I am hesitant to negotiate just yet. He obviously wants the car, and will offer more, but I guess I'm a bit afraid to make the commitment, give up a car I love, and then have to go begging for a deal on a Shelby of some sort. I'd do this in a heartbeat if I could see how it all comes out. Since I can't, I do appreciate my TMS Support Group.

Update. I got full asking price for my car, and the '08 SGT for $800 under invoice. I won't get the car until next week, and will post on that at that time. Thanks for everyone's input.

Rebates?
In my area there is a "Retail Customer Cash" of $1,500 and a "Retail Bonus Customer Cash" of $1,000 rebate. You might like to inquire under "Incentives & Offers" @ http://www.fordvehicles.com/ .

First of all, did you trade it in?
Just a guess here but getting a car $800 under INVOICE usually involves a rebate.
I know my truck did. At invoice all they have left is holdback, which is probably close to only a grand or less.
In my area the rebate is $1500
Invoice minus all rebates would be a great price.
$700 over minus a $1500 rebate is a good price.

Hint...
There are no Shelbys that color.
It ain't a Shelby.
He is buying a Shelby now.
Karman is right, Arrow. My avatar is of an actual signature on my old car. I don't have the SGT yet, but it does have the plaque. The car is CSM#08SGT0406. "She's so fine, my 406?...." Too bad, just 3 off. Anyway, on the new car there was a scratch on the plastic between the aluminum air bag and the glove box, and another on the leather steering wheel, so they're getting that replaced. I can't expect them to work miracles on a weekend. Maybe Monday or Tuesday. I've got another vehicle to drive, but I'm getting antsy. I've seen my old car out driving twice already, and it's killing me to see someone else have it. Sonic really is prettier than Vista, IMO. Oh well. And I know, this thread is useless without pics! I'll start another in the Shelby forum and put this one to rest.
Also, I was told by every dealer that the $1500 rebate was only valid for the 07 cars. Too late now...

I read the post.
Anyway, I was looking at the pics post and the thing that caught my attention was the dash that was just signed, without the plate. I didn't know, so I looked it up, and like I said I couldn't find any Shelby GT's without a signature plate. So it got me wondering about the dash in the picture.
If all I had to go on was the images I turned up, and someone tried to sell me a "Shelby GT" without the plate...I'd think it was a fraud. That's all I was getting at.

That's cool. OMG it's killing me to get in here and post pics of the new car. I hope to get it tomorrow, maybe Tuesday. The passenger air bag cover is coming off immediately to send in for an autograph, and I'm already looking for mods to make. I'm like that little kid in the Disney commercial who squeals "I'm too excited to sleep!"

I do still have the hood, Mr. UPS, but it is sonic blue, not Vista, and it would probably cost more to ship it to Texas than it would be worth. I was kinda thinking of making it into garage wall art. You could try here: http://newtakeoff.com/index.asp?Page...OD&ProdID=7837
$379 aint bad.
