What's happening at AAI?

I've heard from several sources that AAI is closed for the first two weeks of October and will be closed the fourth week of October as well (leaving only one week of production...). What's up with that? A relative of mine (that works for Ford) says it's for layoffs (first two weeks) and also too many Mustangs being produced (fourth week), but it doesn't make any sense since the Mazda 6's are also produced there.

Anybody got any info? I've ordered on 9/20 and it seems that this delay might have me waiting for my Mustang until January.

My local dealers are running low on Mustangs. But what they have in inventory is lots of GT with manual trannies. Also, About 70% of all Redfire/Candy Apple Red Mustangs have the medium parchment interior. About 40% have no IUP. Several have GTs verts - loaded that sticker over 35K. Over 35K is just too much for a Mustang with a bolt-on fake hood scoop. At least GM stamped two different hoods for Firebirds - even late 60s GTOs had stamped hoods. Maybe Mustang buyers are more picky for 2008.

Yep, I've heard the same, not sure about the 4th week of Oct., my buddy there said it had to do with the Mazdas, over-production maybe? I haven't seen very many Mustangs sitting on lots here!!

So far in 2007 Mustang sales are down 28% from 2006, so I'd imagine Ford is cutting back production.

However, the shutdown could be because of the updated Mazda 6.

Not sure, but my Mustang was built last week, the first week of OCT. Hate for it to get produced then sit there for 2 weeks before being shipped.

Edit: Bad data, Dealership showed it built, Official Ford Tracking showed otherwise.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, complete re-tool for the new 6. They pumped out quite a few mustangs to us, we are fine but not overstocked by any means. Lots of nice ones too

Since it's scheduled, what is the receipt, serialize, segment, etc. dates for your build? They received mine on 9/20/07 and I'm hoping it goes through all that hoopla pretty soon. I just don't want to end up picking mine up while there's snow on the ground.

I dont think that has to do with the current situation, if there is one. That was over two months ago.

I wouldn't worry about it. The Kentucky plant that produces the F-series Super Duty (F250-F550) is shutting down the exact same weeks.

Nope it's not the new 6, it isn't even in production yet in Japan. Official JDM intro isn't until Oct 24 at the Tokyo Motor Show. US built models won't be out for probably 6-10 months.

Man, it looks like I'm in for a long ride... It's been over a month since I ordered and I don't have a VIN yet. But after looking on BON, I can see people that have ordered AFTER me already have VINs. I don't get it.

I talked with an employee at AAI, he did confirm they were Closed the first two weeks of OCT, and are schedule to be closed the last week (Next week) as well. That should not affect you getting your VIN. Check with your dealer, make them pull it up on there computer for you, that is how I got my VIN. From there, track it thru the Blue Oval Forums. ViperPilot and Chuck734 have been GREAT!

Being closed for those two weeks bumped my car from being built on the 4th of OCT to the 22nd. But it has been built and is on the way, less than two weeks until it arrives.

Hang in there, I like you know what it feels like as my baby isnt here yet either.
