Put it this way - NASCAR and IndyCars both use Mobil 1. Stands to reason that engineers for those engines aren't going to skimp on the oil. They need to squeeze every last bit of performance and reliability out of those engines...or else their cars won't have a chance of winning.
If it's good enough for a $500,000 IndyCar, it should be good enough for our Mustangs.

This question is like asking 'what's the best beer?'
Having said that, my 2 cents- I run Valvoline dino oil in every non-marine motor I own and have for years. I try to keep changes to 3K miles or less on my trucks/cars. So far, this has worked for me.
But I'm thinking of taking the leap to synthetic blend oil - what's the word on that stuff? Is there a benefit or is it just marketing to those who want something better than dino, but are too cheap to buy pure synthetic?

All of the extended mileage oils say to be changed every 6 months - just like all the other oils out there. They are really designed for people who put a lot of mileage on their cars in a short period, but don't want to change their oil every month.

I have seen extensive studies on synthetics.
AMSOIL and MOBIL 1 are to close to call.
An 18,000 mile study was done by independant testing and both oils held up very nicely.
The only difference of note was the AMSOIL viscosity was elevated.
My choice. MOBIL 1 hands down.
I have been using it for about 12 years or so and AMSOIL is not API (American Petroleum Institute) certified. If something happens to your engine and they can prove that there was a non-API oil in it, your screwed.

Amsoil is definitely API certified, it says it all over the bottle and all over the website.
Mobil 1 is very good oil. I have read that test where Mobil 1 and Amsoil were compared, and the Amsoil did have elevated viscosity readings. However, during that test, the car with Mobil one had six and a half quarts of oil added to it as well as a filter change during the test, where the Amsoil car only had 4 quarts added and no filter change. I don't plan on going anywhere near 18 thousand miles between oil changes anyway.
All the other tests I have read said that Amsoil beats Mobil 1. Do a Google search on the subject, there will be hundreds of responses claiming this. I would think Mobil 1 would sue Amsoil for false advertising if this wasn't true.
Supposedly, Royal Purple claimed they were better than Amsoil. Amsoil took them to court and won. Just what I heard.
Either way, I think either Amsoil or Mobil 1 full synthetic would be the best oils, but I'm going to keep using Amsoil. Been using it in the racebikes for years with no problems.
