What's become of the '05 concept car?
I'll bet its still hitting the show circuit for smaller car shows
Otherwise, they will probably put the cars in storage
The 1993 MachIII prototypes were sold at action recently after sitting in storage for years.

I'll bet the next one will look more like the Giugiaro concept...

Might be ok...if it's "toned down" a bit.
I think the CURRENT car looks a lot like that concept...especially those that have similar body kits and have been lowered.

Apparently, according to Giugiaro himself, the next Stang will not be based off his styling exercise. Rumor has it that it will be an updated and somewhat modernized, though with strong retro references, of the current design. My guess is probably a reskinning along the same degree as the '99 Stang was over its predecessor.
[quote=rhumb;859457]The Concept '05 was actually designed after the S197 was locked in, sort of bass-ackwards from the usual idea of the a concept design preceding and leading into the final production design. Yes, they do share a similar overall look, though I think the Concept, unconstrained by production needs, was a much better and sophisticated overall execution.

I've read that before too, which means, in effect, the concept car is how J Mays improved the '05........so this could be a direction the next generation car could take. I wouldn't say no as it keeps the retro feel but gains a little more modern "edge" to it.

I must admit, I originally preferred the production car lights, but I'm liking the ones on the concept more and more. Probably just because familiarity breeds contempt!
I'd love the next generation car to look just like this.......although it'd need back seats so my baby girl can come along for the ride too.

Ford doesn't keep concept cars around for long. They destroyed the One Lap of America Crown Victoria entry after it finished the race and about a year of touring car shows. It was basically a production chassis with a bunch of aftermarket mods and prototype factory parts.
Ford also destroyed the 1998 SVT Thunderbird concepts. Yes, that's right: the 1998 SVT T-bird. They destroyed them when the T-bird was discontinued after the 1997 MY and the project was scrapped.
Has anyone built a replica of the '05 concept car? It could be done easily with aftermarket parts. Use the GT500 front fascia, Cervini's concept hood & C-scoops , Xenon rear fascia. Paint the inside of the headlight buckets silver. Add a glassback roof, lower the car a lot, use the 17" premium wheels and voila!
The only parts on the concept that don't have aftermarket look-alikes are the tail lights and the quarter window scoops.
