What The Heck Chuck?

Anyone know why Ford makes so many auto Mustangs, and so few manuals? Many dealerships have to order 2-3 autos in order to be able to order 1 manual tranny mustang. It seems to me Ford would WANT to sell more manuals because they get better gas mileage. CAFE is a beeotch and anything Ford can do to sell more fuel efficient cars is a bonus for them.

The Auto Mustangs are slightly more expensive, they are probably doing anything to earn a lil more cash, like selling more auto trans mustangs

A lot of people probably also dont want to bother with a manual trans, especially in traffic

Boy, I stressed long and hard on the trans for my ordered stang. I wanted a manual for the fun factor, not to mention the power loss with the auto, but in the end I just couldn't picture myself in these stinkin traffic jams we have around here pushing that clutch in and out. So I went with the auto.
I have heard in the past that Ford had an agreement to make a higher percentage of V6's to satisfy CAFE. Can't verify that, just a rumer.

The problem is, obviously the demand is more geared toward the manuals. With all the rebates on the leftover '06's, I and others scoured dealer lots looking for any leftover new '06's, and came up with only autos. I checked over 20 dealers in the St. Louis area, and other major metro areas in Missouri, I found 0 manual GT's, and about 500 GT Autos. Not exagerrating.

I was told by a dealer several years ago that most buyers wanted automatics in the mustang, so that's what they ordered for their inventory. The automatics sold fast and the manuals sat on the lot for several months.
I was also told that the automatic mustangs help their resale value longer then those with the manuals.
I guess with the 05+ mustangs all that changed and now most buyers want the manual.

I had the same exact dilema. manual or auto. I've never driven a stick before, either, but I was seriously considering buying a beater for the next couple month or two while waiting for my Stang. But in the end, same thing got to me too. The thought of sitting in traffic in downtown Boston, working my way through 1st and 2nd gears... ah well, I'll have to make up the HP loss by adding fast mods!

Intuitively, I agree. I think the '05+ is bringing it back old school for a lot of buyers. I can't recall an American car with this many optional mods aftermarket, in a long, long time.

Actually, there have been a few times where there's been parts shortages (material holds) on both the GT and V6 manual trans.

I don't think they should be allowed to drive autos. They should fine people who buy cars with autos, in addition to the usual extra-cost option of it.

If you can't handle driving a stick, don't drive. Odds are you'll cause an accident because you're such a retard.

*To those who willingly pay an extra $1,000 for a slower, less fuel-efficient car.

I'm going to pretend that last comment was made to be humorous, so I don't think you are a complete idiot.

well I definitly wouldn't go as far as saying that if you can't drive a stick you shouldn't drive or that people with autos should be fined, but I would definitly prefer a manual stang. This also seems to be the case with the general public, lots of autos and no manuals available.

From what I've read dealers are offering discounts on auto stangs cause they can't sell them. Basically you get the auto for free so I don't think they are pushing the autos to get more money.

Hopfully Ford stops pushing what they want to sell to dealers and starts letting them get what people want to buy.

I had to wait 17 weeks to get my standard...My dealer could only order 1 manual and 3 auto's at that time...Manuals are hard to get but, well worth the wait and FUN...I would have waited another 17 weeks for the manual...They are worth it...

Most people these day's don't want to learn how to drive a stick or are to lazy. I remember hearing a story from a dodge dealer who had some magazine writer come out to test drive a Viper for an article and was ****ed that it was a stick, and he had know idea how to drive a manual. As for me, I had an auto for my first two cars and wanted a stick for my next car no matter who made it!

Doesn't CAFE have the city mileage weighted more heavily? The auto has 18mpg city vs. the man. 17.
They might want more autos for that reason too.

I dunno- I have one of each and like my auto better- I originally went auto because in late 04 thats all there was. It took me a good year and a half to find a manual like we wanted on the lot.
