What does your dipstick say?

If you put in 6 qts, what does your dipstick read? With my 03 F150 with 5.4, when I put in 6 qts of oil the oil comes to about the half qt low spot on the dipstick. I have almost always changed my own oil in my truck, but one time I was in a bind and had an Iffy Lube punk tell me he put in 6 1/2 qts. I promptly told him to take a 1/2 qt. out! He argued, but I said "It's my truck, and the customers always right". I have used Mobile 1 5-30 from day one in my truck. It's got 90K miles on it and still doesn't burn or leak a drop!
Anyway, it looks like my new stang has this same reading. I know it takes 6 qts, and that's all I'll put in. I was just wondering how many of you have experienced this? Thanks, Carl

Mine does the same. I am carefull to make sure my dealer puts in 6 qts. They try to make me pay like 30 dollars extra. I tell them the estimate is way off. They give me the quoted price.

Yes, 6 qts includes oil filter. I'm a member on th f150 forum and there were threads on this. The 5.4, and the 4.6 have the same capacity, and it,s 6 qts. Don't know why the dipstick disparity is so common. Maybe they just don't take the time to adjust it at the factory.

I usually check the oil at home and the car is on an incline , which affects where the oil is on the dip stick. So after my first oil change , when I knew the oil was at it's maximum level , I made a mark on the dip stick. The mark is what I use to check the level ...

Well, kind of difficult to see here in this pic (right after oil change), but the level was between the 'add' hatch mark line and the 'full' circle.

Nope, just a SD550 7.1MP, Canon 'Point & Shoot'.

Key is to turn on the 'Macro' focus feature (most all cameras have this feature). It's great for close-up shots like the one posted.

That was the first thing that entered my mind. I was going to post a similar message.

6 Quarts with a filter change is about 1/2 quart low on mine. 6 Litres fill it to the max, if I use litre oil bottles.

6 quarts is all it needs, unless you let all the oil drain from the heads then it will read a little low

took mine in today for it's first (and free) oil/filter change... per the Invoice, they added 5 1/2 qts of 5-30... guess I should see if it's reading low....

You should also check to see if they added the right oil, these cars take 5-20, not 5-30. It probably won't do any damage or anything, the oil is just slightly thicker when hot, but they should at least get it right!!

Steve: thanks for the heads-up... I'll be calling the Dealer in the morning. Per the Invoice, it says 5w-30. My guess is they let the interns do the oil changes and F'd up. The V6 4.0 takes 5-30... and you are correct, the 4.6 demands 5-20.

I just checked the owner's manual... and it does state you risk the powertrain warranty if approved oil (5-20) is not used in a 4.6L
