I think just about every company uses it to be honest or close to it.

No, the term GT goes back a few years. Ferrari, Alfa, Lamborghini, Maserati, etc. all have used the term....as well as several wannabe domestics.

The Gran Turismo is a race that started I believe in the '50's or so over in Europe.

A GT car is a Two door sports saloon (with back seats).

Speaking of Gts.............I got BURNED by a nine year old Tuesday.
I accompanied my son on a field trip, and I was put in charge of 3 of his best friends. My son told his friend I was getting a Mustang(maybe I was crabbing about getting the for having a car and not a stupid van)
he says-YOURE GETTING A MUSTANG??!!?? A GT? WOW.........
Me: Nope- a v6 convertible
Him: YOU AREN'T GETTING A REAL MUSTANG!
HE goes on to say: I want a Ferrari Enzo.........And the kid knows everything from colors to HP on all cars out today. I was impressed!

It's kinda like Trans AM... the '70 BOSS was built to run in the Trans Am (Trans American) races, but Pontiac put the namesake on their own pony car.
