Waiting since June, now only partial VIN
I've been waiting for my GT since the end of June.
At that time I was trying to get an '05.
Around mid- to late-July, my dealer told me that there were no more '05s that fit my specific criteria, and that I would have to wait for the '06s to start production.
I only just started following other people's stories on here regarding the ordering process, so I didn't have a clue about DORA or the ERL. I didn't even ask my dealer to provide me with the VIN when he got it. (still don't really know what DORA means)
Anyway, I was told in mid-August that I would be looking at a mid- to late-September delivery date.
In the past week and a half, I've called and left 2 messages with my dealer, asking for a progress report and a VIN.
He finally called me today, and told me that my status hasn't changed—that it is still in holding.
I asked about a VIN, and he said it has only been given a partial VIN.
What exactly does this mean?
Is it possible that my dealer hadn't submitted my order until only recently?
In this conversation today, October was mentioned as a possibility...a new addition to the conversations we've been having about delivery dates.
I'm getting antsy.

A DORA is the Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement. He receives this within a couple days after the vehicle is ordered to make sure the order is in and correct.
A partial VIN means nothing. Every vehicle when ordered has a partial vin. Until it is pulled for production, it is useless. This week Ford scheduled the final week of September production.
We had our wholesale yesterday for Oct and Nov production so most dealers should know their numbers by next week. GT production still is in the 30-35% range of vehicles built. In other words, if a dealer has 8 Mustangs allocated, he will get 2 or 3 GT's depending on his zone.
You need to get a copy of your DORA from your dealer. 1st, it will confirm they actually ordered your car and 2nd, it provides the information you need to track your order using the ERL (Evil Robot Lady or VOPC - Vehicle Order Processing Center)
I'm in a similar situation. I've been waiting since April to get a GT ordered from my local dealer and about 4 weeks ago when calling on status, I was informed that Ford "pulled all GT orders." I politely waited a couple weeks after that news to call back and request status and my salesman said it should be about 8-10 weeks. This week, I again prodded them for at least a VOC and possibly a DORA. Response: "We haven't heard anything. I"ll call you when I know something."
I'm beyond frustrated because I really would like to sell my car on my own rather than trade it in for 6k below retail according to what they say it's worth. Even knowing what priority it has been assigned would be a good thing at this point.
