My suggestion, keep practicing (and that means backing into all parking spaces) so that you get used to the car.

I find I always underestimate the amount of space I have only to walk to the back of the car and find an extra foot or two. Also, take a good look before you back up so you get a feeling for the dimensions of the space. Often people back up without having really looked and then are worried about hitting something.

I don't have a problem with the view directly to the rear. Drove trucks for years, and backing with mirrors is no problem.
That said, trying to see off the right rear fender of the 'vert when backing out of angle parking, is just plain impossible. I find myself developing neck strain trying to look out the passenger window, then the back window, then the passenger window, then the back window... All this while backing up reeeaaallll slowly, and praying no one's gonna plow into my fender before I get on my way.
'Course, top down, I have an unrestricted, almost 360 degree, view of my surroundings.
Hmmmm... Another reason to drive with the top down.

Yeah in SoCal why do you have the top up anyway? Luckily the 5 days I've owned my 'vert have been beautiful I've had the top down everyday.

Funny how this summer San Francisco didn't break 85 degrees once, now that I have my car, there hasn't been a cloud in the sky these past few days. Maybe it's a sign...... :worship:

that weather sounds like paradise to me.It's been 95+ here with nearly 100% humidity since may.I am over this heat.
Dan-I hang a ball from the ceiling and it works great. Getting the ball up was a challenge though.

I was nervous backing up for about the first three days (after driving a tiny Escort).

Now it is second nature - - and compared to other cars, the side mirrors on the S197 rock and work great.

I have backed my E150 Conversion Van for 7 years. And trust me, you cannot see out the back windows, side mirrors only. I rarely pull into a spot... I always pull through or back in... including my driveway. That way I can see where I'm backing rather than wondering what is behind me when I back out. Backing the Stang is a piece of cake. I always use the side mirrors. The only thing I had to get used to was backing into the garage. As someone else commented, it looks like you are too wide to get in. You get used to it. Now I zip right in and, knock on wood, I haven't hit anything yet.
