I just received my VIN for my new '06 GT. The last 6 digits are in the 138000 range. Do later issued VINs receive a higher number, say 138500, or is it completely random.

What is the method for assigning a VIN ?

It's in the order the orders are serialized

The VIN is the order number that they are serialized, but not necessarily the order they are built.

OK, so yours being built 1 week before mine should mean your VIN is somewhere in the 138000 range, like mine. Is this correct ??

Is it safe to say a 138000 VIN was built AFTER a 132000 VIN ?? Can't you tell by the VIN (last 6 digits) how "new" a vehicle is ?

This is just a guess, but I would say that it is safe to assume that if the VINs are 6000 apart that the smaller one was built first.

That is not necessarily a safe assumption . The only statement that would be safe would be the farther apart the numbers are, the more likely the lower number will be built first.

There is no need to guess, the VIN is posted in the signature.
