In listening to sound on the video again it almost sounds like at about 1/8 mile one of the cars misses a shift or false neutral or something. Anybody else think they hear this?
I heard that as well, then I realized it was most likely the next pair of cars pulling into the staging area!

IMO, the video is great regardless of what it ran! I love watching it match up next to the earlier model! Good Stuff!

Yeah that number has to be off. A Lincoln Aviator I read somewhere does Low 15's to midrange 14's.

It would seem its a V6 Mustang.

Ridiculous huh? So your telling me if this car ran a 13 flat in this vid it would be useless to us on determining how it will perform? You know darn well everyone on this forum would be jumping for joy if that was the case. But instead we get this is useless. The person who posted this vid should have used more common sense seeing as this video is "useless" to us. :notnice:
There are so many fan-boys on here. It's almost pointless to read any threads on this board given the attitude most everyone has. Anything that suggests that the new Mustang may not be some perfect automobile is torn to shreds and said to be worthless... if it's not a complete fabrication, I'd like to hear what people have to say.

Granted, I'll form my own opinion when the car is available, but the new Mustang is clearly going to have some shortcomings. 300hp for $25,000 -- try to find another car that matches those specifications. You'll either pay a lot more, or get a lot less engine for that price. [/b][/quote]
I've noticed some of the same things as well, but I guess it's expected when people devote so much time and energy to find out something "new" on this car. I'm not saying that all people on this board are like this, but there are some of you out there. I'm a huge Mustang and Ford man myself...heck, I even have a huge Ford Racing flag on my wall hanging over my bed, but I will not hesitate to voice my opinion if I don't like something. All the new little gadgets are nice to begin with. I like the fact that their are new color gauges, seats, a whole new interior and a refined suspension, heck I love it..but the Mustang was made to be an affordable sports/muscle car. I can live with a few squeaks and rattles that the exhaust makes, but it's the performance that I truly care about.

The driver of a car is everything, I have drag raced and I will tell you it is more than just dumping the clutch and holding the thing to the floor. If it spins alot your times will stink, factory tires are not good for an accurate time in any drag race. Most people will never drag their 05 but will feel the power from a rolling start, how hard will it accellerate from 30 to 100. I seen a set of slicks take a whole second off a cars time.

I also find it hard to believe the car runs that time with the extra power but anything is possible. Everyone has to be patient and wait for the mags to get the tests out there for us. Remember we don't know why that car was even at that drag strip to begin with. They could have been testing the car's launching abilities on stock tires for all we know.

I for one respect people's opinion on the car, good or bad, but it helps if you have some proof to back up the claims. If not for all we know it could just be another story that has undergone ten rewrites as it passes through ten different forums!

That low trap speed makes me think the guy (or gal) let off the gas at the end too soon. My Mark VIII traps at 95, and it has 290 hp with a 3,765 lb curb weight. Not to mention the 3.27's.

Just watched the video, looks like they babied it out of the hole and it took off quickly after it was rolling, it sounds like an automatic to me, I believe there is more there, It really didnt seem like they where running it that hard.

I took this video as a nice peek at the '05. I have come to no conclusion regarding the vehicle. It was cool to see a '05 run (most likely a pre-production I might add). Why try and break it down to something more than that?

I'm sure if there was someone wanting to buy a Mach last night and watched my first run (14.1) they would go home thinking the Mach's are slow as heck! But after six runs I did get my time down(13.8) (as Greywolf mentioned), and I'm sure the more I run the better times I'll record. (I sure hope so! ) I've read many people recording 13.2's and even a few who have gotten a 12.9 out of a stock Mach. If I went out and ran a 12.9-13.0 my first run ever in the car I would sell everything and start a new career as a drag racer!

Just my $.02.

I thought so also... he was probably thinking, "Oh SNAP, I shouldn't be doing this with a pre-production car! There goes my job. Eh... screw it."

All the guys calling for a reality check are right. We shouldn't jump the gun here - wait until a real car gets tested to draw any conclusions.

It's either a manual that was really babied or an auto which would explain the lack of revs at the start (I still think its an auto).

The relatively quick auto time may be due to the new 5-speed.

I'm still saying 13.5-13.6sec.

Helluva lot of inference for a single data point. Even so, we know with a reasonable amount of certianty that the car will be no slower than a 14.2 et.

could be worse, mark my words.... :R:

I'll give you that the driver could have stinked...but not that he "babied" it. Nobody goes to the track to run a car and baby it, you give it all its got. Maybe he stinks, but he punched it to the best of his ability alright.

Your right that you don't go to the track to baby a car but I think they are saying is that he babied it out of the hole, so as not to go up in smoke. At least that is what I gather from the previous posts.

Excuse my drag racing english, that was not a hard launch, it seemed to me he just let the brake off and hit the gas no power braking or nothing. When I drag raced my 90 GT we called it babying it out of the hole, because on street tires I would spin the whole 1/8 mile with a hard launch. I ran in the 12s spininng though the gears, easy launch my best time with street tires was a 9.02 ,with slicks I ran 8.65 to give an example of the different factors.
