Very concerned about my Hurst shifter install
Very concerned about my Hurst shifter install
OK, it’s been done to death, but I have some concerns about how my Hurst shifter installed, (yes I have searched)… Yes it shifts fine… No I was not drinking when I installed it…
Using the attached link http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2006/02/HurstShifter/index.php
Photo 5, 9, 10 shows the shifter rod pointing towards the passenger side; mine installed pointing towards the driver’s side?
Photo 6, 11 shows the front mount bold installing from the passenger side towards the drivers side, mine installed from the drivers side towards the passenger side?
Photo 16 shows the wide flange of the bushing on the passenger side; guess what mine is on the driver’s side?
Photo 23 ??? If my install is backwards???
Photo 25, yes my shifter handle bolts mount from the passenger side
OK, were the photos reversed? Is there a difference in the 07 model? Will the transmission be damaged? Will the car blow up? (OK probably not)
Am I just paranoid over nothing?
Thanks
Jeff

i cant remember how mine is installed.... i know i put the bolts on just like the pic shows for the actual shifter stick.
if it shifts fine, and there are no issues, it will probably be ok. i havent heard anyone say anything about it going in backwards.
any one?

I don't have the Hurst, but the pics on the linked website are accurate as far as the shifter link arm and forward trans support orientation.
When you're under the car for a while, it's easy to get disoriented. I'm not saying you're nutz, but I'm pretty sure the shifter can only be installed one way, at least that's the case for my MGW.

I am at work, (nice cloths) otherwise I would crawl under the car.
Maybe I am nuts!!!
Unless Alzheimer’s set in, both bolts tightened from the passenger side, from what I remember.
I guess the bigger concern is the orientation of the bottom (offset) to the shift rod end.
Could there be a difference on the 05-06 and 07?

j/k man... even I get all twisted up as far as which way's forward-back, left or right from laying on your back looking up into the tunnel (less than a foot from your face!) for an extended period of time.
Hurst looks good in the pics though!
