It was my understanding that the V8’s started out being made in Canada but were going to be transition to being made in USA. Have they started that yet? Can that be part of the order?

Most are made at the Essex Plant in Windsor, but some are made in Romeo.

Ford does not allow you to specify which engine source because they would never be able to get rid of the Romeo engines!

From what I remember the 3v 4.6 was being built at Essex in Windsor, then started up at Romeo...for a while both being built there....

then, eventually once Romeo was up to speed and getting up to demand etc, Essex would stop.

Don't know if any of that has changed.

Umm, mine said it was built in Romeo...and I thought all of the trannies were made in Mexico (manual and auto) since they were all tremec transmissions?

Look at the bar code sticker on your cam covers. It will tell you where the engine was built REP = Romeo Engine Plant.

My GT has a five-speed automatic built by Ford in France. Has a 3-valve 4.6 built at the Essex plant in Windsor. Only the French tranny is listed as foreign made, though.

There's more to it than just quality. It's also about pride. It's harder and harder to buy American and keep our countrymen employed rather than exporting our paychecks out of the country.

American corporations know nothing about pride; they only want to turn a profit. If it's cheaper to produce engines and trannys elsewhere, that's what they'll do. In theory, it's supposed to keep prices low so your fellow countrymen can afford the products marketed here! In reality, however, I think it just helps increase their profit margins so they can make their stock holders wealthier.

IMHO they have pride but its not nationalist pride, I sure Ford is proud of the transmission made in their French plant as is GM for their made in China motors for their new SUV. They are Multinationals they are thankfully working for a profit making cars that are desirable, unlike the late Yugo. Ford and GM have to understand their market as well a Toyota dose in that American like if given the choice of equal quality like to buy American made. The best way for me to show them that is with my wallet.

FYI I would love to have any of the 05 Mustangs, it more of an icing on the cake thing, being able to specifying the Romeo might have pulled me to go with the GT instead of the V6.

Did you ever wonder why most of the souvenirs in gift shops from around the world are made in China? Simple: cheap labor. I bought a new Ford Escort ZX2 in 2000. It was made in Mexico. Cheaply. An American company employed foreigners to build their car. They didn't hire the Mexicans because they possessed superior technology; they hired the Mexicans because it helped their bottom line.

An American salesman accepted a commission for selling this car to another American (me). The salesman cashed his check at an American bank, staffed by American tellers, then went home to feed his American family. I returned to the dealership to have American technicians service my car. Seems to me, that with all of the Americans involved, I should consider my ZX2 an American car. But technically, it's an import, right? I mean, it was made in Mexico for crying out loud!

While it would be nice to produce every piece of every unit sold in America, using American labor and materials, the reality is that we farm out work and obtain sources of materials from the lowest bidder so that American companies can continue to profit. Otherwise, cars like the 2005 Mustang might end up costing $10,000 more than they already do.

Reality bites, doesn't it? Honest, able-bodied Americans are losing their jobs every day to keep our prices down and the company's profits up. Ironic.

Couple of points that you and other might help me with.

1. I enjoyed the 6 on a test drive and I don't get the $5000 for 5.1 zero to sixty compared to 6.9.
2. I am tormented by the 19 extra feet in stopping 70 to 0 MPH of the v6.
3. The 6 being made in Germany just seems wrong, as does the French trany. There isn’t any choice on the trany since it the same on both cars.
4. How do I get a Romeo V8? Wait till 06 or 07 or is there dealers to go the extra mile of an 05?
5. Nothing against our friend to the north but they haven’t been a $5000 extra kind of friend lately.
6. Is there something I missing to cover the value of the GT?
