I posted a similar post in 94-2004 room. However i was describing a 2002 V6 i took out today and thought the V6 sounded kinda poor.I thought it sounded kinda vacuum cleaner like,or at least too air sounding to me.I have visited some other V6 boards and heard other describe its poor sound also...

So this really turned me off from buying this 2002.Im wondering if anyone has heard the 2005 V6,and if so, could you describe the sound, and even better if you have a wav file of sound...

Well in my mom's explorer she has the same v6 with nearly the same numbers.

Its kinda throaty as it gains in the speed or revs it becomes a more like supercharger whine....when from a stand still its pretty grunty for a v6 albiet it doesn't last long when the revs start start going up.....but like I will warn you not to stomp the gas in park or nuetral.

I did last night and the engine sounded like one of the heads blew clear off. Like its was really loud noise and it seriously felt like there was an explosion under the hood. That was a like 4 grand. It scared me.

The V6 engine in the Mustang can sound good with the appropriate exhaust/mufflers and tailpipes. Don't let the exhaust note of the STOCKer V6 Mustang keep you away from a good car. That issue can be remedied for little money.

Keep in mind that the V6 Mustang was designed for all audiences. The majority of V6 drivers are people under 25, and is driven more by women than men, 60/40 split, where as the V8 Mustang is 65% men. If Ford made the V6 loud and grumbly sounding through the exhaust, they could potentially lower possible sales of the V6 Mustang.

So the question is, why are you wanting a V6 over a V8 if you want sporty sounding exhaust?

If you are thinking cars like the Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G35, or even a VW R32, is what the Mustang should sound like... well the Mustang V6 is not a direct competitor and not marketed towards those drivers. The V6 Mustang starts below $20k, the others are $30k+.

The 2005 V6 sounds quiet, or just like my 2001 V6 from the outside.
