Upgrade from v6 to Gt...is it worth it?

I have a v6 vert w/pony package and I love it but i have always wanted a Gt but with gas and insurance cost being more and the price of the car itself, I want to know is it worth it. Is there anyone out there that has made the switch from v6 to Gt that can give me some insight?

I went from an '05 V6 coupe to an '06 GT Vert and while I loved both cars, I would say having the GT has been more 'fun'... My V6 was awesome and with the CAI and tune, it was a blast to drive, but the V8, CAI and tune has been even better! I was actually suprised to see my gas mileage is very similar to what I got in my V6... Around town, it's pretty close to the same and on long freeway trips, I lost a little bit compared to the V6, but both are still in the same ballpark... And luckily, my insurance didn't go up all that much (which actually, that was the first thing I looked at when thinking about upgrading)... I think I ended up going up like $15-$20 a month... I was figuring a lot more!

I say look into trade/sale numbers, insurance costs and such to see if you can afford to do the upgrade... Since you already are thinking about it, it sounds like you are just waiting for the push into going for it...

If you have not driven a GT yet, do so. That would help you make up your mind.

I like the Pony Package and there is one for sale I have looked at 10 times. I just got a GT and passed on a V6 but both are great cars.

I had a Pontiac G6 GT(205hp) I know I know not really on topic. Either way, I went from a fun car to drive to a car thats is my hobby. Love the switch and I was afriad of insurance getting me(19yrs old with an accident) and my insurance only went up $10 a month.

Check with your insurance company but its not as bad as everyone thinks.

Last Labor Day I stopped in at my local Ford dealership to look at a V6... drove it, and really liked it. After returning to the lot, sales agent directed me to park the V6 next to GT, and I couldn't resist. I test drove the GT and they couldn't get me out of it! With the 0% / 72 month deal, I left with the GT. Now, as far as gas mileage, there really isn't that much of a difference. I'm averaging 19mpg in town and 24-25 highway. Insurance was almost a wash too. And, if you're intriqued with performance mods... GT will suck your wallet dry... but you'll enjoy every minute.

If you have to ask you know what you want... Drive the GT do some insurance research and you'll know.
Is it worth it? well if you can afford it it is. My car is a blast and I have driven GT's. I miss the big V8 sound bad but I still don't think that would make me trade it in. I have a bad zip code so my insurace will double if I upgrade. I'm set/stuck with my little beast that is still my hobby. No offese but to me the GT isn't and wasn't worth the cost for the gain I would have got, if I went that road. I can still S/C it and it will be faster and cheaper in the long run. When this is paid off thou I will own a V8, GT or above then.

There was NO pun intented with the "hobby" comment I made a few post back refering to v6's to v8'. Again, I mentioned i went from a completly different car to a Mustang. So my pontaic was fun and my Mustang became my hobby.

I went from a V6 'Vert to a GT 'Vert (same colors, same options) and have been smiling strong ever since. Even wifey loves the upgrade, especially since the GTA's were added. GO FOR IT!

I drove a 1999 V6 mustang for about 6 1/2 years, great car, but I was able to find a 2004 Mustang GT at a price and that was a nice upgrade, V8 mustangs have a great sound and power on demand. Maybe look into a 2003 or 2004 Mustang GT, or maybe a MACH 1, or now you can find a good price on a used 2005.

Yes it's worth it..

I bought an '05 V6 back in '05.. I spent alittle $$ making it look like a GT.. I liked the car, but the lack of power was killing me..

Both are great cars. Get what you want, just make sure its a stang.

Now, what to add to the stable....5.0, SVO or hold out for the boss and see if Ford will really build one. Hmm...
