I ordered yesterday (although it was missing IUP so it's going to have to be redone today) and I put $500 deposit with X-Plan.

 

My dealer required no deposit but this was not my first purchase there. Will order another one for delivery in March without a deposit. I don't know why any dealer would require a large deposit as they can sell them in a flash if you back out. Maybe that binds the deal. $1000.00 non-refundable deposit. Thats crazy for sure. NO WAY would I ever do that. Don't take this the wrong way but that was not a very smart move.

 

'Zero' downpayment..... My dealer said they want to get as many GT's as they can over their normal allocation. There are 3 or 4 people signed onto my car as buyers if I refuse it......

HA HA HA!!! Yeah Apparently this is a new option on the 05 Mustangs. Ford got a lot of complaints of people soiling themselves when they saw the 05 Mustang!!

 

$200.00 down. Dealer did not require it. I just though it was a good way to start a trustful relationship. Funny part is...........they cashed it. I don't mind though.

 

$500 down. Never dealt with this dealership before, and they also cashed it. Not a big deal tho as the only thing that will cause me to back out is if they sell the car out from under me to make a bigger profit or if they were to suddenly want to re-negotiate a bigger profit (bigger than the 1,700 ish they are STILL making offa me)

I have ordered a number of cars and have always found they want $500.I find this strange that they want the deposit but don't cash the check.

 

I didn't put 10 cents down when I ordered. I just picked up the phone and told the owner what I wanted. Seven weeks later the car was here I put together the deal based on our conversation of fair pricing (500 over invoice, AQHS discount $500) and took delivery with a check.

 

I put down $500 at order. However a dealership in Athens, Ga wanted 5k down. (Really the did , I still have the e-mail.)

 

I had a very good quote but the dealer asked for a 1K non-refundable deposit. I didn't feel comfortable with any amount non-refundable. Anything can go wrong. Now a 1k refundable would be a different story, I would of done it!

 

I agree. My dealer asked me if I wanted to put something down. No problem -I handed him a Discover card and he said "we don't take that, but it's okay". No deposit, just a little trust. The deal went smooth...

 

Possibly. But if I put down a deposit and sign something, then that's a binding agreement right? The deposit being refundable is basically a way out for the buyer. I'm certainly not going to back out. And it's not like the dealer can say "well, I've decided to keep your money and not give you the car you want."
I imagine what might go wrong is *when* I get the car I want. But I've been tracking the order through Ford and the dealer and up to now things seems to be going ok.
I suppose non-refundable is not the norm, but I bet a *lot* of dealers ask for it and a *lot* of customers do it. I trust these guys and I don't think asking for it automatically means you're an evil dealer who is going to rip somebody off. However I'm sure that all evil dealers ask for non-refundable deposits.

 

I put 500 down also but I ordered on June 2 and I wanted them to know I was serious.

 

Thinking about it - I wonder if it's better to put money down from a legal viewpoint. I guess that if you don't know our dealer very well...

You should put down a deposit if you are seriously wanting a Mustang.

Lets say you order any vehicle and dont put a deposit down. What if the vehicle came in on a day that your salesperson was off? What if a salesperson sells the vehicle.

When you put a deposit down on a vehicle, it ensures that no other person can come in and buy the car. When you have money on a vehicle, it cant be sold to anyone else. when I order a car for someone, its $500 down. That customers name is written on the order and when the car comes in, its keys are given directly to me when the car is unloaded and prepped. It also keeps any salespeople from joy riding the car. One of my customers on here was lucky enough to see his car unloaded and prepped. While he was there, 3 people were in the wings trying to get the car if he didnt take delivery. If there was no deposit on the vehicle, they could have opened the doors, got in and pawed all over it. Because of the deposit, I had the keys. No one drove the car. No one crawled all through it. The car was driven only by the necessary people.

Just my humble opinion and the way I will always do it.

You are saying that this is physically impossible to do without a deposit? This exact thing can't happen without a deposit? A persons handshake carries no value? The only purpose the deposit serves is to take you out of the market, period. The dealer figures you'll stop shopping once you've handed over money.
