which tunes should i get?
i think il get my SCT from doug. read some people have issues but most swear by him
anyway which tunes should i get? il probably never be on the track, this car a daily driver. probably a 91 tune and 2 87 tunes, but should they be torque, race or perf? i am looking for highway merging/passing as much as red light acceleration.
any help is welcome
thanks

They won't charge for updated tunes if you get the parts from them. At least if you have a problem, you can call them up or email them and they'll get back to you with an answer real quick. If you have a problem with Doug, good luck. Might be a month before you get some help. You wouldn't even need a tune for pulleys. As far as octane, what are you looking for? 87 won't do much for performance, but you will get the better shift points, reduced throttle lag, etc. If you want to go with his tunes; 87 performance for regular economy driving. 91 torque for a daily driver. 91 race. Highway merging/passing shouldn't be a problem with a stock mustang gt. The quickest feel from a red light would probably be the race tune.

if you dont mind waiting 3 weeks go with bama but if you want a great tune in 1 week go brenspeed and make sure you get the 93tune just to try it out you will love it and an 87 for daily driving.Dont buy into that performance torque and race stuff i tried them all and the best one was 93 from brenspeed

I have an auto, is Brenspeed's 91 tune better than Bama's 91 race tune?
I don't like how Bama is so slow with everything. Brenspeed has faster and better customer service. Bama has not replied to my e-mails at all...
I know it's just Doug, but jeez can't he hire staff or something?

+1 for brenspeed, 1 phone call and he emails new tunes or tweeks almost as fast as you can hang up the phone and as others have said the tunes are free if you get the parts from him.

I would have to agree, that you cant get ahold of Doug, but you wont have to wait 3 weeks for your tunes. I ordered my tuner/tunes on 10/8 and it was shipped on 10/12.

89P/91P/93R 87 tunes do nothing but basically remap the throttle pedal, why bother wasting money on an 87 tune(or a tuner/cai for that matter)..I got 91t/91p/and 93r, the 91's just for backup if I am visiting a state without 93. The higher the octane, the more they can do with the tune. Once you load 93R tunes, you won't go back to anything else anyway.

I got 3 tunes from Tillman this past week. 87 Perf. 93 Perf. and 93 Street Race. CR said they have a 93 All Out Race tune too, but he did not recommend it for street use. I got the impression that it was a little too wild for daily use. Judging by the Street Race tune, if it was any more aggressive on the throttle response, I can understand! That Street Race tune is a BEAST!!
I must say though, I am presently using the 93 Perf. tune for my daily driver because the race tune was just too aggressive on the throttle. don't get me wrong, it is fun and all, and if I was going to be racing anyone, I would definitely want that tune. It makes my shifts f'ing ROCK because as soon as you get it into the next gear and hit the gas, it is GONE. It feels like the throttle goes instant WOT as soon as your foot touches the gas pedal when you are powering hard through the gears.
The 93 is still more aggressive on the throttle than stock, but in a good way. I like it. A very good daily driver tune.
87 Tune, I have yet to try it...still enjoying the 93 tune too much!! I will probably try it tomorrow when I fill up next.

I got 3 tunes from Tillman back in march or so. I got the 89 performance (using stock intake), 91 performance and 93 Race (both using the Granatelli CAI). CR described the tune categories as follows: Performance - higher power and torque throughout the RPM range than stock, with greater emphasis on horsepower, great for a daily driver. Torque - extreme low end torque, somewhat improved in the top end, and somewhat power improved. Race - All out performance, copious amounts of power and torque throughout the RPM range. I got the same recommendation from CR that the race tune wasn't really intended for daily driving. Here's been my experience (you'll find it lines up with Steve's)
89 Performance (stock airbox) - Night and day difference in throttle response and "power lag" is gone, significantly better acceleration. Clutch is much easier to smoothly actuate and requires a lot less throttle to take off from a dead stop. Engine revs much more freely. Gas milage significantly improved over stock.
91 Performance (CAI) - Everything about 89 performance with even better throttle response, much better acceleration, and one mean exhaust note (because of the CAI). Clutch slightly easier to use than 89 tune, slightly less throttle needed. Revving slightly improved over 89. Gas milage still improved over stock. Like a different (and much better) car.
93 Race (CAI) - ENITELY DIFFERENT BEAST. Extremely responsive, loads more low-end and midrange power, almost takes off from a dead stop by itself. Top end power improved over 91 performance but not by leaps and bounds. Engine revs very easily (excellent for quick heel-toe downshifts). Throttle is so responsive that while you can drive it around town, acheiving smooth starts and shifts will be somewhat of a chore. So f#*#ing fun that your gas milage may suffer from your new driving habits.
I usually use the 91 performance with the CAI but since I need to get my driving habits and consequently my gas milage back under control, I've reverted to the 89 and stock intake. Once in a while I'll load the 93 race tune for a couple weeks at a time before I get sick of how hard it is to make a smooth shift and I'll drop down to the 91 again. Based on my experience, I stand by my choices of 89p, 91p, and 93r and those are what I'd recommend. I would definately say keep one tuned for the stock airbox when you need better around-town gas milage. As it's more sedate than the CAI, you'll take it easier on the gas.

CR,
I appreciate all the help this morning with technical details and making my purchase easy and quick. I'm very anxious to get the tunes, and open up the track tune this next spring!
Keep up the great CS.
For everyone's info, this is what I purchased this morning...
-ARH LTs (1.75" primarys) w/ catted H.
-MAC axle-backs.
-JLT II with SCT Tuner (87 performance, 93 street race, 93 track).
-Hurst shifter.
-BMR LCAs.
Can't wait! It's going to be a whole new animal.
