trunk light question..

my 07 GT has the switch which when closing the trunk, pushes down and shuts off the trunk light. My Father in laws 08 GT has a NO such switch and a black off plate over the hole where my switch is.. How does the 08 trunk light work? (turn on and off) At a car show yesterday his never shut off .. even with the trunk closed for extended time..

Wow.. I've never paid much attention to mine.. I know it never shuts off if I leave it open though.

Now I'm going to have to put my son in the trunk to see what happens. Maybe I'll leave him in there and have my own Trunk Monkey!

I coulda swore my trunk light worked with/same as the dome lights? thought it would go off after 15 minutes(unless door opened/closed resetting timer)

might be confusing it with the wifes avalanche- the bed light dont have a switch on the gate, if you ope the door/close the door/open the tailgate it shuts off about halfway thru loading/unloading everytime

our old 65 galaxie, the trunk light only works if the parking lights are on- now is that goofy or what

Mine turns off automatically with the battery save feature... And it goes off when I shut the trunk.

When at shows and trunk had to stay open light was always on, on my 07 GT/CS convert. Easy solution was to go to Auto Zone and buy a rocker switch and mount it right in the plastic panel next to light. Simple splice of two wires and you can cut the light off and turn it in as you desire.

I googled up Ford OEM Parts--the luggage compartment light panel/socket/switch is the same part for 2005-2009 Mustangs. Nothing about a mercury switch. They are apparently all controlled by an electrical switce as on my 07 conv. There is also a trunk lid ajar switch, probably also behind the bulb panel. If there is a light in the 08, by the service manual, it should have a switch that when the hatch closes, turns the light off. Could not find any reference as to where it is on the coupe.
Still, if your worried about the light staying on when the trunk is closed or if you want to control it, a simple $3.00 two pole rocker switch will take care of it.

The switch is wired into the latch on my 08 open the trunk then look at the latch take your key and push up on the latch when the latch clicks shut on your key the trunk light goes off then hit the trunk release button on your remote when you do the trunk light will come on, question solved.

The trunk light shuts off automatically after 15 mins. from the factory.

I wired two fluorescent lights from GT concepts they are great it alluminates the whole truck activates off the switch.
