just busting chops, but please if you have nothing to add, keep it to yourself.

yikes!
suggest a cheep mechanics stethoscope, might be able to narrow it down a bit...odd how it goes away warm, hopefully not a thrust bearing issue. if youre near due for a oil change, I'd cut open the filter and pray theres not a lot of metalflake in it.
have you looked at the seperator plate behind the oilpan? maybe something hit it and pushed it against the flywheel...
I had a old capri that the starter gear stuck out- it sounded about that bad, but more of a screaming sound...
I dunno if our backing plates have a inspection hole like the older ones did, but I'd take a look. just odd how it quiets when warm...

i'll check it, i am 90% certain its from the trans and not the engine. thanks for the input. i have pretty much put the car away for winter already, but might drag it down to the dealer to have them take a look.
You'll have to forgive me, I spend most of my forum time in an Off Topic forum and forget regular forum etiquette from time to time. Hope it's nothing too serious.
You said when it warms up it goes away completely?
OK , no change clutch in or out? Sounds like The Throw out bearing to me....
who has the best prices on oem clutches? i dont really feel like going aftermarket, because i wont ever make much more power.
it doesnt sound anything like previous throwouts i have had go bad on me before. just weird. i think even if it is a backing plate issue, i'll have to drop the trans to fix it properly, so i guess it is clutch time.

IIRC, aren't OEM clutches way expensive. I priced one out once from Ford and it was like $1500 for the entire kit. I think you can get a better aftermarket clutch kit for half that.
I have a 07 GT myself. I had an issue with my car on cold starts with this rattling sound from around the tranny and under acceleration. Turns out theres a TSB that came out 8/10? about it. It would go away when the car was warm. Lucky for me I was still under powertrain warranty. They replaced the plate between the engine and tranny and sound is gone. look up separator plate buzz. I hope this helps

I definitely agree with your taking to your Ford dealer for diagnosis. Your Service Manager will be in the best position to assist you with this and check for TSBs, Recalls, or warranties left on your vehicle. Also, Please PM me with your VIN, mileage, contact info, and dealer so I can look into this further for you.

though i still hope i can get ford to help me out with this issue, i think i found the tsb that this is covered under. thinking back, i am pretty sure this issue started early summer, but now people look at me funny when driving down the road in my very nice mustang. i think it scares kids.

no, i havent gotten the car to a dealer yet. Sorry, i initially put this up just around when i usually put the car away for winter.
i would say in two weeks or so i will get it to a dealer. need another paycheck first.
