Hi, I picked up my new Mustang 2 weeks ago today. On the way home I noticed the synchros or something making noise when I downshifted from 3rd to 2nd. My dad drove the car too and said he thinks it's normal, but I don't think so. Anyone else here have any kind of noise when downshifting to 2nd?

Thanks,
Tony

What was the RPM when you downshifted? Did you blip the engine, or double clutch, or just down shift?

Just curious.

It happens at any RPM's doing just a regular downshift, no double clutch or anything. Also, I don't know if I put it clearly enough in my original message, but this is something that happens all the time, not just a one time thing. It feels smooth, no vibration in the shifter when it happen, but the noise it makes doesn't sound right.

Hi Guys well if your just down shifting from 3rd to 2nd and your hearing what might be described as a wine building up untill it goes into 2nd that is normal this is the syncro's . They are trying get the speed gear up to speed in order for the shift to go without grinding .

Happy Holidays, hope that helps

I agree with the above thread. A quick whir or whine on downshifts is normal for
this car and not a problem.

How about a grinding feel while in 3rd gear? None of the other gears feels like it's grinding just 3rd.... it seems to be smoth while your on the gas, but when you let it coast in 3rd it feels like really bad grinding...

My GT is the first powerfull stick shift car that I have owned. So I am not sure if I am driving it right.
I have a lot of experience driving stick shifts but that was back home in a different country where we have small 1.0L engines in most of the cars.
I do get a thud kindaa noise when I am shifting between the first three gears but only when I do it at less RPM. If I drive the car hard it seems to be ok.
I know its a GT and it is supposed to be driven hard, thats what I plan to do too. But till its relatively new there are times when I just baby it a little and that is when I hear that loud noise. It happens on both up and down shifting.
