Hey all...

I just picked up my 06 GT and drove it 980 miles from the dealer in New York to my house in Georgia. Everything went fine and the car drove great, but I did hear a noise that puzzled me.

When I get on the car, I hear a high-pitched whir/whine along with the engine noise; it almost sounded like the noise a quiet supercharger might make. The noise seems to come from the front of the car, so I think it is tranny noise. Now I have heard the 3650 is a noisy transmission, so maybe this is just normal noise. I certainly didn't notice any trouble with the transmission, just the noise.

Anybody know if this is just normal noise, or should I have it looked at?

My 06 doesn't make any sound like you described. I would have it checked out if it did.

Recommend you get it checked out You may want to look at the Technical Service Bulletin thread

I doubt that it's normal.

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission?

If manual I'm sure it's the TSB for the '05. A new snap ring and some other stuff needs to be replaced.

I have the same problem, but when I took it in the dealer refused to fix it per the '05 TSB because there wasn't an '06 TSB on the problem.

He lied and said the transmission was completely different from the '05.

Sooo... I'm still waiting for the '06 TSB to get it fixed. Avoid Hollywood Ford if you live around here in LA.

My mine make the same high pitch noice. Team Ford at North Point said it was "normal." I haven't had the time to take it in again. Where in GA are you?

I'm in Athens...I'll probably take mine to Akins Ford in Winder. I'll let you know what they say.

You might want to check the '05 TSB and take a printout of it in with you... sounds like the same thing to me.

The dealer said the noise is normal...they drove another 06 GT to compare, and said the two cars sound the same. So I guess no problem, unless it gets worse or something else bad happens.

cool.

Well I don't know if it's "normal" or not but from what I understand the T-5 in the new cars ('05 and '06) is the same tranny that's been employed since the '80s.

I have a '91 GT and my transmission is VERY quiet compared to my '06. I've also ridden in several other older mustangs and they were very quiet compared to my transmission.

Being as you have the exact same symptoms that the '05 TSB address I would imagine that's exactly what is wrong with it. But like my situation, the dealer probably won't fix it until you either complain A LOT about it or Ford finally issues a TSB to address the problem.

I'm taking mine to a friend that works at a Ford dealership locally and he's going to fix it. He's been working on Mustangs for about 20 years and also said it's not "normal."

BTW I don't know how may threads about the gas tank fillup problem I've read where the Ford dealer or tech said it was "normal" and that the person just needed to figure out how to fill up their tank properly.

Completely ridiculous.

My understanding is the V6 Mustangs use the T5, the GT's use the 3650.

Now that would make sense if that's the case.

Because if the transmission in my '06 is the same as my transmission in my '91 then it's definately not normal.

If so the 3650 is reeeeally noisy compared to the T5.

That is correct, the GT uses a 3650.

The TSB addresses a "grinding" noise on deceleration...my noise is more of a whirring or whistling noise, on acceleration. I'm not going to worry about it anymore unless it gets worse of I see an 06 TSB on it.

I just got my GT back from the dealer. I was getting a really bad whining noise at about 50-55 in 5th gear. They had to take the tranny apart (scary) and replace everything that had to do with 5th gear (bearings, etc..). I don't like the idea of my brand new transmission being taken apart, but the noise is gone

The noise mentioned above came back!! I found that I couldn't hear it when it was colder out. The service manager at my dealer said it might have something to do with the viscosity of the tranny fluid, and I hear the noise more when it is warm. He is doing some more research for me.

Hey guys:

Check out this post:

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showpo...8&postcount=17

Nothing new to us, but more confirmation that there are others with a high pitch whine in the tranny...not the rear end.

My tranny (automatic) is singing too when I stop accelerating... since I install the JBA axle back I hear exhaust sound and it covers the tranny "song"
may be a solution :
Buy a borla, ford racing, magnaflow, JBA, MAC, Loudmouth... and you won't hear your tranny anymore!

My flowmasters don't mask the whine I have. I guess earplugs are next.
