Traction control

hey guys. I’ve tried searching this for days but have found no answer. I have a 2008 gt and I can’t turn the traction control off all the way. I’ve tried pushing the button the off light comes on. I tried the button and using the brake but nothing happens. The light isn’t coming in in the cluster no matter what I do. I know the system is still active because when I try to burn out it will absolutely roast the tires in first gear and when I shift to second it stops turning them and takes off. To me, having the tires melting the way they are in first I should be able to keep it going in second. Please help

I am not sure about the 08; but in my 10 you have to stop, hold your foot on the brake, and hold the button for about 15 seconds to turn it completely off

I have tried all of that. The only thing I haven’t tried is removing the fuse. I’m wondering now if maybe I can wire a cutout to the factory traction switch for the tcs and esc. Should be easy enough to do

or, maybe it really is off and it just doesn't want to continue the burn-out in 2nd

I guess it’s possible. But when I get a chance I will get a video. Then you can see for yourself what’s happening. Having to pump the throttle because the tires are spinning so fast. Then shift to second and there’s a chirp and the car takes off like a raped ape

I don't know if this may help to address your concerns, but if you've re-flashed your car's ECM with a performance calibration tune? you may want to consider to look into finding out if the traction control is turned off in the tune? otherwise if not, then I honestly don't know what other advice to offer. All I do know is that there is an option in the end user adjustment menu of some of the SCT X4 programmers that provide an option to turn off and on traction control

I don’t have a tuner as of yet. It’s definitely my next purchase though. I would honestly think though that there would have been a way to completely disable the system from factory. Thanks for the help though guys

I can confirm that removal of number 18 fuse in the passenger foot well will kill the system completely. I just tried it myself a matter of 2 minutes ago. Car peels the tires savage in first and shift to second and they keep on smoking. Abs, traction control and service brake system appear on the dash with the fuse removed

yep that'll do it . . . just be aware it kills the ABS too

I have trouble with "advancetrack" on the road course, pulling the fuse would disable that, but I'm not sure i want to lose the ABS

Yeah it makes the car totally different. I just wanted to know that there was still some kind of system active. The fuse is back in now and I will be buying a tuner very soon.

If you are hoping to modify the Traction Control with a tune, I am not sure if you will have any luck with that. I talked with a few tuners (meaning the people who write the program that is downloaded through the hand-held tuner) and none of them would touch the Traction Control settings, for fear of liability since it is a "safety feature." Interested to hear how this works out.

So your saying that a tuner won’t disable traction control?

The tune that ProChrager created for my car toned down the traction control nannies in my car. When stock, TC would kill the throttle if accelerating hard out of a corner sometimes. To the point where I found it dangerous because the car essentially went to idle and you had to take your foot off the accelerator compltely for a a second or two (seemed like forever) before the car would respond to throttle inputs.

I no longer have that issue with ProCharger's tune. The car will easliy break traction at 75-80 mph and not get shut down by the TC.

in my limited experience that is correct; apparently Spectre's experience is different; probably depends on how engaged the tuner is with your car

ProCharger's tune is also locked - I cannot go in and tamper with it.

My TC is still functional, it just doesn't seem to kick in as easily. I have heard of tuners that will turn it off entirely, but I never looked into it. On rare occasion, my wife drives my car. I'd like to keep her around so I don't mind some safety features being there. She is the one that got me the ProCharger for my 50th birthday.

Thanks for the replies. I am the only driver of my car. If I feel like totaling a set of tires then I should be able to. I guess I’ll have to do a lot of research before I make a purchase of a tuner then. I guess that I should say I’d would like the traction control and esc totally disabled. Once again guys thanks

Just to close off the thread. I purchased a roll of wire, 2 spade connectors, an inline fuse holder and a rocker switch. Switch on everything works as the factory intended. Switch off equals party time. Thanks for your help
