Tough Match Today

I ran into something quite odd today. I was cruising on a highway and HEARD this fairly loud rumble nearby. I looked around and it turns out it was an SUV. I was like huh??? What's up with this thing? So I sped up some to see what it was. When we got to the next light I got a closeup view. It was a new Chevy Trailblazer SS. Now, I'd never run into this thing before and thought to myself "its an SUV no big, but that rumble". Light turns green and we begin to move. That thing has a very impressive rumble to it. So he juices it and HOLY *HIT that thing moves. So we start going at it. This is NO PUSH OVER! He hung with me no problem. We were or at least seemed to be very closely matched. I couldn't believe it but I just got done researching this thing and it's got the LS2 in it rated at just shy of 400hp. Now, I know he out weighs me, but even with my little CAI and TBS, I'm no where NEAR 400hp and I don't believe my weight advantage is going to overcome the hp disadvantage.

This truck is no joke. Be aware of them. This guy had noooo issues with showing off his 400hp.

So what was the outcome. Did you come out ahead or did he?? Those trucks do sound nice with that Vette engine tucked underneath the hood!!

I've seen two in my area. Never had one try me. Course I woulda prolly ignored him. There nice looking rides. This goes to show it isn't just cars which are fast on the road.

Outcome was neither of us was tremendously killing one or the other. My cooler head (and the wife yellin at me) prevailed and I backed off eventually which was a wise move because the traffic became too thick. He decided to press on and I let him go. Honestly, if someone was going to take someone out, I think it would've been him taking me out, but again it would've been hair close IMO.

This happens when you match a 350CID 400hp engine against a 281CID 320hp engine. My manual trans, tiny mods and lighter weight are all that kept me even in the hunt.

With your upcoming mods, you should have to much problem with them...

Slower in the 1/4 and 0-60 with less top speed.

And the 4X4 is even slower (the only kind I see around here).

I had some guy in one try to race me in my V6 Explorer. I really couldn't hear his exhaust though. Wish I would have been in the Stang, and I could have shown him that he should've bought a Vette instead!

Good friend has one.... tune & intake. Walks my stock GT (manual w/3:55's). He's strongest from about 30mph - Up. If I had to guess, it would be a driver's race if both are stock.
The C&L, Brenspeed tune and 4:10's will be enough tho

this trailblazer SS' are pretty nice.... they do sound very good. Our stangs should be able to handle them... but do not mess with the JEEP SRT's =\

By "handle" you mean stay with them? If you are the better driver, maybe. Otherwise, you'll see it's taillights.

This one may have had some things done, I'm not sure. The exhaust seemed pretty potent sound wise for a factory job. If I had to guess in a flat out race, as I said I believe he would've walked me, not by much but judging by what happened, I was fully engrossed in the loud pedal. I mean I believe he was too but I think as the speeds rose, he'd be showing me the back end.

I plan on a couple small things this year so its all good...eventually

Thats odd, my buddy had his Trailblazer SS at the track the same day I had my GT there, my car was faster by atleast 2/10ths witn my butt in it, stick my buddy who owned the SS (he's a better driver and weighs about 150 pounds less) and it was a4/10th advantage.

Well, at least you can take solace in knowing that he'll have to hit the gas station before you.

I might possibly have gone against a charger srt8 and pulled on him by about a half car by 45mph. This being before my last dyno tuning of 27rwhp and without staging.
