Took Tour of Flat Rock Plant, 06-07 GT Info
#1
Well, I just got back from a vacation in Michigan. I have been anxious to share some of the info from the plant tour in Flat Rock. First let me say it was awesome and would not have been possible without a friend of mine(who got me X plan!) making a call to get me in.
My wife and I were given a complete tour of the assembly process, which was so interesting. My build date was 8/15, so I was hoping to get to see my car. As it turns out, as I pull in the parking lot, my salesman calls my cell phone to tell me that my car was just delivered. Needless to say it was 5 agonizing days of wait to get back and pick it up tonight. I love it and so will all that ordered Tungsten. Can't wait to get those pony emblems on the fenders that Kevin sent me! If you ever get the chance to tour the plant, it's worth it.
Some of the things I was told and learned at the plant were as follows:
1) I don't see how the reports of Vista Blue not being produced can be true. About every 3rd car I saw going down the line was Vista Blue.
2) Our tour guide says that there will be either a Boss or Mach I version coming in 07 or 08, possibly both. Most likely will have a small change to the nose, probably longer than the GT. He indicated that some GT's had been built with "special options" like small superchargers and submitted to Detroit for approval.
3) He indicated that the 18 in bullits will be available this November, and that cars with those may not be available until early 06. Also said that the plenum cover that we all love will be available as on 2006 1/2 option. He said they had some of them there, but they went on some of the special test models.
4) He said that like the cobra model, ALL 2007 GT's will have IRS. He would guess that a price increase would follow.
5) Was also told that the 06 model has a horsepower increase of approx 25 hp due to a different chip and some pulleys, don't know if that's true.
I was really impressed with the lengths they took to insure quality on these cars. Sorry, I don't have any pics of the inside of the plant, a camera was STRICKLY forbidden! I have some pics of the outside and a lot full of mustangs as far as the eye can see. I also have picks of mine, but given the number Tungsten pics already posted, I didn't see the point.
As I said, I picked up mine tonight, the 1st 06 Mustang received by my dealer, who by the way was excellent to deal with. Had it cleaned up, ready to go, and tucked away in the shop for me so no one would bother it, and just like I asked, no stickers or anything put on the car. If anyone needs an IN dealer who accepts X plan just ask!
I will be glad to answer any questions.

Wow man. That is amazing info your giving us. If you can, get those pics of the lot of mustangs up. I'm sure we'll all like it. I find that Boss and Mach 1 info interesting. So say they were coming. would ford have V6, GT, Boss, Mach 1, CS, and Cobra. Thats a pretty deadly lineup. It would make the competition have to something. they would be stupid not to.
Did your guide say anything about the 18" maruader rims? I'm still wondering about those.
Congrats on your new Car

I was on a business trip to Detroit today and had some time to kill so I drove by the AAI plant. Saw hundreds of Stangs waiting to be shipped. Would like to take a tour - how did you get a tour arranged?

4) I could see the next gen Cobra having IRS, but switching over the GT to IRS? Doesn't make sense in how they stagger the options. Maybe an IRS Boss/MachI, but the GT? Can't see that.
5) They've been having trouble keeping up with demand for the 05's and they switch the chip and pulley in the 06? Again seems unlikely.
I'd love to be proven wrong on #5 as I have an 06 on order.

Thanks for all the congrats guys! Sorry, I didn't think to ask about the Marauder wheels. I kept thinking as we walked around"what else should I be asking here?"
As far as the hp increase, I asked my dealer that tonight when I went to get the beast. He didn't know, said he would check the 06 shop manual when they got one, so who knows?
All I can say is for you guys on order with Tungsten, stay with it! You'll love it. But to be honest, after seeing the rainbow of colors going down that production line, they all look good! Well I have to kiss my car good night and go to bed. Later

I thought the Cobra was going to have a SRA, and I have a hard time believing the 25hp increase on the '06s when NOBODY has even mentioned anything like that yet in rumors and whatnot.

Have to agree with DiamondBlue.
25 more HP for 06GT? That would be earth shattering news on this forum.
IRS on 07 GT and Cobra? Again that's like saying we've discovered life on Mars.
Not doubting that that was what you were told, but that's the first I've heard mention of these incredible newsflashes.
