Thumbs up

The GT is a gorgeous piece of kit but why does it have to have power everything and A/C as standard equipment? What I want is a strippo Mustang with the V8 in the vein of my 89 LX 5.0L. Imagine a standard V6 2005 Mustang with the GT powertrain and nothing else... roll-up windows, manual door locks, manual windows, no air, 16" Halibrand wheels with the spinner centercaps... . Where's my LX, Ford? Cash waiting!!!

hey i am going to have to disagee with that. Ford did make the LX mustang for a long time and they have a big following, it is a purpose built performance machine. FOr me personally I want a compfortable ride and i dont mind paying for it but i think it would be cool to be able to get a GT base modle (LX) with no options for power anything for $21k-22k. That would be sweet for the poorer enthusiast that just cant see themselfs driving a 6 when an 8 exsists. Oh and by the way you are 100% correct ford is not honda, I have had 4 mustangs and they are always being worked on by me to keep them alive and honda's for the most part go forever. But broken or not I am ford through and through and cant waite till my 5th GT comes in.
Just my 2 cents

Not gonna happen. They tried it last time in 95 (called it GTS) and nobody understood the concept anymore. It's a thing of the past.

Actually the stripped down GT existed from the GTS of '95.5 thru '97. The base GT essentially became the GTS in '96, but Ford did not market it's availability so there were very few built this way.

As was discussed before, Ford made one called the "GTS". Very few were sold. Most people want power windows/steering, A/C, etc. Also, its just not as profitable to build a stripper version. Say goodbye to the days of the stripper model.

Look at the way this car is equipped right now. More standard stuff than ever before and STILL we get idiots complaining about how "in 2005, there should be this, there should be that bla bla bla bla". Can you imagine if they were trying to sell a car as you suggest? Come on, no one wants to crank windows anymore.

While I will agree that the GT is a steal for all you get, a LX model might not be a bad idea, provided it was well marketed like the LX 5.0L was, and not neglected like the GTS was.
Believe it or not, there are still plenty of people who prefer crank windows! I happen to be one of them! I think power windows are one of the most unreliable, needlessly complex, and utterly worthless options that car companies seem to be shoving down our throats lately. Would I want something that lacked A/C? No, my comfort is too important, but things like power windows or power locks are more of convenience items, which I and probably many other could live without.
Lastly, a LX model might be lucrative as it probably would have a lower insurance rate and be less of a cop magnet than the GT, which was part of the appeal of the old LX 5.0L. Also remember, that with the original, you could get a V8 with or without the GT package!

You could always buy a "Boy Racer" from Ford Racing. Maybe a bit too bare-bones for you though. And possibly not street legal at that point.

The question that has to be asked is if you took a base GT, how much equipment could be removed in order to drop the price enough to attract customers that wouldn't consider the GT due to the price? It already has cloth seats and a basic sound system. You can already delete the spoiler as well. What's left? The GT wheels....power locks and windows....fog lights.....what else? I can't really think of much else in the luxury department except A/C (which isn't a luxury to me since I live in Texas).

My neighbour just picked up a Honda Civic Reverb. He sat there bragging about the MP3 stereo and ground effects, which was not too bad but then I said....no power windows or door locks. He said, no, there were not available on that model.

What is the point of getting a lot of bling-bling and then no power options. Hardly anyone wants -non-powered doors/windows these days. I know some of you do, but you are in the minority.

I think a lightweight LX Coupe would look awsome. I liked those ones in the late 80's & 90's

But what do i know?

So I'm in the minority but we're still out here. It's not a money issue to want a car with less equipment, it's a power to weight issue. I drove an '05 GT on Saturday and really liked the car but compared to my LX 5.0L notchback, it really feels heavy and the engine seems to be working hard to get the car moving. With the 3.55 gears, I expected more bottom end pull. Perhaps a set of 4.10s would wake the beast up since the power seems to be in the mid-range and higher. Ford says they went with the live axle in the new model because most of the buyers wanted it for drag-racing, etc... well, not many "dragracers" want 300+ pounds of luxury options in their cars so it's a little confusing.

I'll end up with a factory-loaded GT in the end but it looks like I'll have to keep the LX to have fun with.

Mustang II's never had power windows or locks. Those options are for Lincolns!
