Hey guys

I've been a reader for a while and decided to join after seeing this local thread. No Mustang for me yet, although I'll be placing an order for a GT in the next two weeks.

Can anyone recommend a particular dealership or salesman in Hampton Roads? I've been in contact with several, but I want to make sure I'm dealing with quality people.

Welcome. I dealt with Barton Ford on my car, although my salesman retired everyone else I've dealt with there seems Ok.

Welcome VA Ford. I bought through Cavalier, at a time when the dealers could still hold a fairly hard line, especially if you were trying get something like GT vert with a manual. It's a bit easier to deal now. Just make sure you have your negotiating plan in place, and walk if they try to slide you off of it.

I bet they'll come and get you with a revised counter-offer before you can drive off. If they don't, go to another dealer.

We've got a thread in the Mid-Atlantic forum as well. Hope fully we'll have some more photos and things there in the future.

Have you had Mustangs before? If so, what did you have?

Gordon Walker at Caralier Ford.
Finally a NO BS sales guy. Super easy to work with. He'll get you X plan too.

Tell him you want to buy one via X plan. He can get you the PIN #.

HIGHLY recommended!

Thanks for all the input. This will be my first Mustang, and it's now been over a year since I was originally going to buy. I've thought about used, I've thought about buying off the lot, but I keep coming back to an order since I'm fairly picky at this point about what I want (or more importantly don't want). I'll be the guy to want a call the day it comes in & have them do as little dealer prep as possible. Not even sure I want the go-fer to get behind the wheel to go top off the tank on delivery day.

Sounds like I'll have to check out Cavalier. It'll be X plan so I have already received the standard price from the other dealers I've checked, which looks to be about $500 over invoice. Everybody sounds the same on the phone and can't really give me a reason that they're different from the next dealership, which is why I'm looking for that salesman/service department that understands that this isn't just a random car I'm buying. Any other dealer experiences or advice is much appreciated.

X-plan prices are all the same, assuming that the car is IDENTICALLY equipped. So, the price may be slightly different due to a "small" option.

In terms of service: I know the parts person at Cavalier portsmouth (what used to be Don comer), and I used to go there for service. But, they are a little out of the way for me, so if the car needs to go in while up in VA, I usually take it to Bowditch, since I work in newport news.

Honestly, though, I prefer my small-town local Ford dealer here in Central NC. They have been GREAT to me, and seem to value my business. Also, they are the cheapest of anyone for oil changes. So, assuming it isn't a critical issue, I usually just take my car in to the dealer here in NC.

for those interested in joining a mustang club in the HR area:

www.peninsulamustang.com

That is the club that I am a member of. We are a newer club (only around for about 2 years), and most of us are ex-members of Styling stangs.

Anyway, the website says what all we're about and all. I believe the "leader" is working on the site as we speak, so there may be new details in the next couple of days.
