Question Tire Press Monitor and New Wheels

I just got my new Chrome Bullitts from American Muscle and they don't have the TMS sensors in the rims? Is this an issue? Will I see or worse "hear" an alarm or something? Can this be disabled?

Thanks

You will get a warning light each time you start the car. It can be shut off by hitting the reset button each time.

I've heard that Discount Tire has a generic pressure band that you can use. I think you might have to go to the Ford Dealer to have them reset ti so it works. I think it costs $10 per band.

It might be worth calling your local Discount Tire and asking them.

I heard it was about $100 per band. Maybe I am wrong not sure. I have the same problem but I just press the reset button. Not a big deal. Didn't want to spend the extra money. Rather spend it on other mods.

I was told it was against the law to disable the dash reading so you will need the straps or just keep hitting reset. I did that for a time.

They also sell the bands through American Muscle just reuse your sensors that you have now.

If you are talking about the one on the rightside of the hazard lights button, I always thought that was a dummy (no pun intended for me) button. When ever I had to air up a tire that was low on air, the light just went off. Looks like I need to re-read my manual.

Oh well....I plan to have the bands replaced when I get new wheels.

Correct.
The bands arent that expensive, and no reprogramming will be necessary if using origional sensors.

Are the bands around the rim inside the tire?

I called one of those takeoff places that offer wheels and tire packages and they said that they don't come with the bands? I thought since they were Factory wheels that they would already have the bands installed?

It's always something!

O.E ones are not reusable. Discount or Tire rack has reusable ones. Yes they are on the inside.

I would imagine that if they were 2007 take-offs complete with tires the band would still be there

That's what I was thinking. Ford starting putting bands in starting with the 2006 model year didn't they, or did it start in 2007?

A lot of folks take the sensors out to transfer them to new wheels. Even when you find sensors with the sensors still mounted, you still need to go through the hassle of reprogramming the car for the new sensors.

Is that something the Dealer has to do?

Yes, unless you have a special tool, but they can be pricey. This TPMS BS is expensive You have to pay more for bands and transferring the sensors, or you have to pay for new sensors and retrain the car... and my nearest Ford dealer wants $150 to retrain my TPMS for new sensors! I still need to call tire shops around to see if they have the tool and can do it for cheaper.

$150? Geeze!

I'll ask Discount Tire if they can do when they install my new wheels/tires. I don't want to spend a extra $150!
