Thoughts on removing the under hood insulation?

Has anyone tried removing the hood insulation from their 05/06 Mustangs? Just wondering what the ramifications would be...

More noise? I can live with more noise.

Paint discoloration from the heat? That would I would like to avoid.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

Shouldn't really be an issue. Most aftermarket fiberglass hoods don't have any insulation but it will be louder. If you have a cold air kit that's not a bad thing imo~

Up to you, but I don't see the benefit, and the stock hood isn't painted under the blanket.

My hood looked like hell underneath the blanket. I tried to put it on my Ca. Dream hood, but the contours were different. Stock hood was kind of a greenish primer underneath, speckled with blue paint and no clear .

Bought and installed a strut tower brace from Strange Development (Promotional pricing ends 7/14/06). I love the light weight of the bar and the handling benefits but after 2 weeks, I noticed it caused some indentations in the hood liner. I thought it might look better with the hood open if I remove the liner.

I'm pretty sure they got rid of the hood liner on the '06 models.

If that is the case, you can pretty much pull the liner. I don't know how well the hood was painted under there though

well even the ford racing strut tower brace rubs the liner, not as bad as that, but does make some small indentions. You would think that they had a mustang to test fit, so why would they make it knowing it will hit the liner, who knows, not me. Anyway Wasnt too bad tho.

My '06 has a liner, but it sags in the front and it's rubbing by the TB and one or two other places. Not too worried about it as I'll be replacing the hood with a Cali Dream in the future.

My .02 - Don't. Take a look at the hood on a lot of Jeep Wranglers, especially dark colored ones. You'll see "Crow's Feet" in the paint - bunches of small cracks. I can't say for certain the lack of a hoodliner is to blame, but I know I and many others have had similar problems. With the size of the hood on the Mustang, the amount of heat put off by the motor, and the thin cheap paint job most of us have... well, you get the idea. I'm leaving mine on.

I took mine off, I like it better without it. Paint is not show quality but good enough underneath.

Underhood paint looked pretty good to me.

I dropped my sound insulation liner when I did the Shaker.

More noise? Probably.

Paint discoloration from the heat? I doubt it.
