Just as there's no light underneath the hood, but yet there's one in the trunk.
Guess some of the Ford engineers, must have forgot to put the crack pipe down

Yeah, I love how they still call them "map pockets"...like, wtf map fits in those? You can't even fit a GPS in one!....I have a little pack of tissues in one, for when the flip'n fast-food cup dribbles...
It's simple. Remove components that can't be readily seen to cut cost corners, then void customer warranties when the customer runs to after-market components to fill the void.
I hear in the next Mustang, you have to install after-market visors, and the glove-box only works if you build your own hinges...

My '96 had an underhood light, glove compartment light and trunk release. So, I put in a trunk release using the stock Ford button like I had in the '96 (several threads on how to install). I noticed that in the underhood blanket there was a cutout exactly where the light went in my '96. So, I bought the '96 light part and installed it. The glove compartment light is trickier. The '96 had a different locking mechanism and the light was part of the catch for the lock. That part won't work for my '05. But, my family truckster (Linconl Town Car) has a glove box light that I think will work. If the part doesn't cost a bundle, I may put one in.
What's wrong with you people? It's a glove box! You are only supposed to keep your gloves in there! LOL!
Anyway, mine is an owners manual box and it doesn't even fit in there far enough to close the lid without catching on the latch most of the time. Well designed cars have a slot in part of the glovebox to slide the manual in..
The map pockets in the doors are a joke... All they do is collect dust and debris...
